Grounded How To Get The Insect Hammer

Of all the tools and equipment available in Obsidian’s early access game Grounded, the most useful are undoubtedly the rare tier two tools. In the current version of the game there are only two level two tools that can be crafted: the Insect Axe and Insect Hammer. While the axe may seem like a more useful of the pair to invest in, the Insect Hammer is required to harvest many of the game’s best materials. If you want to have the best hammer possible in Grounded, this guide will show you the easiest way to make one for yourself.

Just like the Insect Axe, the Insect Hammer is the level two version of your basic Pebblet Hammer, and is necessary if you want to get the materials needed to make other high level gear. Plus, while very slow, the Insect Hammer deals maximum stun damage should you find yourself ambushed while out harvesting materials.

Gathering The Materials

The Insect Hammer has three main ingredients, two of which are going to pit you against some Stinkbugs and Bombardier Beetles. If you don’t have some good armor and weapons yet, you should get yourself geared up before attempting to track down these ingredients.

First you’ll need to hunt down Stinkbugs for four Stinkbug parts. These annoying creatures are found to the North of the big rake on the Western side of the map. You’ll know them by their large, brown, and flat shape.

They tend to appear in groups of around four, so you’ll want to use a bow or just throw a rock to aggro one at a time so you don’t get swarmed. Even one can do a lot of damage with its bite, so be ready to time your blocks. Stinkbugs can also spray an AOE gas, which you can’t do much about except back off until they move or it dissipates. Thankfully, the gas move seems to have a long cooldown so you’re free to move in and strike right after.

Keep taking them down one at a time until you have four Stinkbug parts.

Next up you’re going to need just one Bombardier Beetle Explosive Gland, which will not be as easy to get. Bombardier Beetles are difficult prey, even compared to Stinkbugs. They’re the big green bugs that like to spray an unblockable acid at you from a distance, and take off major chunks of health up close with their bites. They can be found not too far from the Stinkbugs on the big rock, also by the rake.

If you have enough arrows you can try to find a good vantage point and take them out from range with relative safety – as long as you can dodge the acid. Play it cool and get your Bombardier Beetle Explosive Gland.

The final ingredient is four Berry Leather, and each one of those needs to be crafted from three Berry Chunks, totaling 12 Berry Chunks you’ll need to gather. Berries can be collected from the hedge, found around the South of the map near the middle. Throw rocks from below to knock them loose and whip out your axe to harvest their chunks. Just stay vigilant against the Larvae and Orb Weaver Spiders that tend to show up around that area.

Crafting The Insect Hammer

As soon as you’ve collected all the necessary materials, head over to your Analyzer and scan everything you’ve found to unlock the recipe for the Insect Hammer. After that, just use your workbench to craft it and you’ve made the best hammer Grounded has to offer. With it you can now collect materials like Mints to make the most powerful weapon in the game – the Mint Mallet.
