The Grand Theft Auto V trailer for PS5 already counts as one of the most disliked videos on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel, closing in on 100,000 downvotes in total. Rockstar Games and Sony unleashed the trailer in question late last week during PlayStation Showcase, offering viewers a first look at the game’s updated graphics and enhanced gameplay. Still, apart from a delay out of the original November 2021 launch window, much about GTA V’s new version remains under wraps.
Fans immediately expressed their disappointment in the trailer by flooding the video’s various postings with downvotes. Within a day of its release, the trailer as it appears on PlayStation’s YouTube page had accrued 15,000 likes and over 34,000 dislikes. Rockstar’s channel similarly felt the heat, boasting 24,000 likes and 35,000 downvotes at the time. Meanwhile, Xbox’s version of the gameplay trailer accumulated 1,300 upvotes and 2,700 opposing responses. A bulk of the disdain resides in the perception that GTA V doesn’t seem to have improved much, specifically when compared to the previously released PC version. Another look at the video’s YouTube performance indicates the public perception remains largely unfavorable.
Grand Theft Auto V’s PS5 trailer now counts among the most disliked videos on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, as mentioned by Push Square. At the time of writing, the negative reception sees the like to dislike ratio sitting at 24,000 and 96,000, respectively. The Rockstar Games channel is hardly faring any better, with the trailer hovering around 31,000 likes and 94,000 dislikes. Though the Xbox version only boasts 82,000 views, compared to the one million-plus each on the PlayStation and Rockstar pages, it’s still received a predominately negative response, raking in 2,400 upvotes and 5,000 downvotes.
Downvotes continue to prove a good barometer of general public perception. Electronic Arts can attest to as much, having earned the Guinness World Record for most downvoted comment on Reddit. Such an unfavorable honor came following the publisher’s response to Star Wars: Battlefront II’s loot box controversy, a response that garnered a staggering 683,000 downvotes.
How Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive plan to react is anyone’s guess. Of course, fans aren’t only upset at the seemingly incremental improvements. The focus on GTA Online, specifically, has taken up a considerable amount of oxygen over the last eight years. This first showing of yet another re-release may be the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak.
