Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn reveals he will soon have his own Funko Pop! figure. Funko’s line of Pop! vinyls has become a worldwide favourite due to its wide variety of pop culture characters – both fictional and real. Its popularity is such that every big movie release includes a line of Funko toys in its marketing game, whether a Pop!, Dorbz, Vinyl, and other fun categories the company has to offer.

While it’s more common to see characters from movies, TV series, and videogames be made into Pop! figures, there have been football and hockey players, basketball stars, wrestlers, musicians, and filmmakers that have gotten the Funko treatment. Naturally, a big part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been immortalized in these popular toys, and Funko has set its eyes on a peculiar Marvel character, though not a fictional one this time.

I believe @TheRealStanLee’s already been done, and I’m coming up! More news soon! Cc @OriginalFunko https://t.co/vpqFJjHLTG

As mentioned by Gunn, Stan Lee has a few Funko products dedicated to him, including some from the line Vinyl Idolz, Dorbz, and an exclusive New York Comic Con golden Collectible Pop. However, the first filmmaker to be immortalized as a Pop! vinyl was Ghostbusters’ director Paul Feig. His figure was made in a lot of 200 and was exclusive to the online store, making it even more valuable.

Most recently, Funko revealed a new wave of Pop! vinyls dedicated to WWE wrestlers such as Chris Jericho and Sasha Banks. Other recent reveals from the toy company are a supersized Dragon Ball Z Shenron Pop!, a Neomorph (with Toddler) figure from Alien: Covenant, and a few members from DC’s upcoming movie Justice League.

Funko’s attention to detail is quite exceptional, as they never fail to include each character’s key elements without going over-the-top. James Gunn sports a relaxed look, so it will be quite interesting to see which Gunn-elements his vinyl figure will include. The Guardians – both the first roster and the new one – and the villains from both movies have gotten their own figures, and given the success of Vol. 1 and 2, it’s a fair move from Funko to give Gunn his own figure. We can only hope this figure will be easier for fans to get than Feig’s and Stan Lee’s exclusives.

Adrienne Tyler is a features writer for Screen Rant. She is an Audiovisual Communication graduate who wanted to be a filmmaker, but life had other plans (and it turned out great). Prior to Screen Rant, she wrote for Pop Wrapped, 4 Your Excitement (4YE), and D20Crit, where she was also a regular guest at Netfreaks podcast. She was also a contributor for FanSided’s BamSmackPow and 1428 Elm. Adrienne is very into films and she enjoys a bit of everything: from superhero films to heartbreaking dramas, to low-budget horror films. Every time she manages to commit to a TV show without getting bored, an angel gets its wings. When she’s not writing, you can find her trying to learn a new language, watching hockey (go Avs!), or wondering what life would have been like had Pushing Daisies, Firefly, and Limitless not been cancelled. Breakfast food is life and coffee is what makes the world go round. Guillermo del Toro said “hi” to her once. It was great.
