Harrison Ford was spotted wearing a sling after sustaining an injury while rehearsing for Indiana Jones 5. The Oscar-nominee is back for the long-awaited fifth installment of the adventure franchise. Directed by James Marigold (Logan, The Wolverine), the flick is said to be Harrison’s swan song as Jones after four other films. First announced in March of 2016, the project hit major setbacks from the get-go.
From script rewrites to a director change – originally Steven Spielberg was set to take the helm once again – the entire production has been rocky. While the team finally began production in June, cameras didn’t roll for long. Unfortunately, catastrophe struck again when Ford suffered a shoulder injury while rehearsing a fight scene. Though the incident threw the entire shooting schedule into jeopardy, the creative team rolled with the punches and rearranged dates.
Weeks after the accident, People reported that Ford was spotted out and about in London’s Mayfair district sporting a sling on Friday, July 2. The actor was pictured in his civilian garb, clearly on an off-day from filming. Though his greenish sling would fit in Indy’s mossy world, it clearly can’t be worn while filming. Photos show that the device fully supports his arm and shoulder, ensuring the injury heals properly. While the severity of Ford’s injury hasn’t been made public, the fact that he’s out and about is a good indicator that he’s on the mend.

This is hardly the leading man’s first on-set injury. Ford insists on doing as many stunts as possible, and thus has gotten hurt a lot throughout his time as the whip-wielding doctor. One of his first injuries came while shooting the franchise’s premiere film Raiders of the Lost Ark. The movie star bruised his ribs and tore his right ACL during the action-packed shoot. His bad fortune continued on the sequel with him herniating a disc during Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Though Ford been injured on other films along the way, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, his latest wound is the latest, and hopefully last, for the Jones franchise. Though he’s clearly still game to do his own stunts and in good shape, at the age of 78 Ford should definitely take more precaution. The Indiana Jones 5 team will likely tone down any of the performer’s upcoming action scenes and ensure his stunt double is utilized. Otherwise the whole production could find itself falling into a temple of doom.
