GreedFall is an action roleplaying game with a 17th century aesthetic. Set in a fantasy setting where colonialism is the main focus, players can engage the world by doing things like fighting enemies, dealing with the land’s several factions, and allowing NPCs to join the player’s party.
But as with several other games, money is paramount. Money is how the player buys crafting material, superior armor, etc. So why is it that players sometimes have a hard time collecting gold? At the beginning of the game especially, players will often find themselves lacking funds and be forced to pick and choose what they can buy in town with their limited funds. So how can players acquire more money?
Sell Loot in GreedFall
It’s RPG money-making rule #1: sell loot. Several players often limit themselves to only selling items like unused consumables and certain crafting components. But several players don’t sell gear they are not going to use. Instead, they deconstruct it for the crafting material.
Crafting material is abundant in the world, be it through merchants or just finding it throughout the world. With there being no shortage of crafting material, there is no real reason to continually deconstruct gear when it can be put to much better use by being sold to merchants for a profit. As a general rule: if the player isn’t going to use it, sell it. If the player really wants to maximize their looting potential, however, then it is recommended that players acquire at least a few levels in the intuition talent since it increases how much the player can collect from looting, gathering, and recycling.
But if the player wants to really make a profit, then it recommended that they prioritize killing human targets. Humans tend to not only be easier to kill but also have better loot. Usually in the form of weapons, armor and ammo. They also carry gold too. There are a couple of notable human-enemy farming spots throughout the world, but one of the most notable is just north of San Matheus. So go out, kill enemies, loot every container or corpse that is available, and sell it all to vendors. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Using Talents to Sell Stuff in GreedFall
Another prominent means of collecting gold is to craft items and sell them. Invest a point or two into talents like science and craftsmanship, as these are the talents that will allow players to create potions and gear upgrades respectively. But of the two, science seems to be the most useful talent since continued talent investment will allow the player to also create things like ammo and alchemical preparations.
But whatever the player chooses to invest in, the point is to make a profit by selling crafted items. Armor ointment, for instance, sells for 8 gold apiece and is one of the easiest items to craft at a workbench. Remember how this guide mentioned how crafting material can be found in abundance? Use that massive amount of material to create a hefty amount of consumables and sell them off.
But if the amount of gold from selling these creations is unimpressive, there is a silver lining. That silver lining is that they can at least craft items to avoid buying those same items from merchants. Why pay 15 gold for a health potion when the player can craft it for much less? There is also a charisma talent that can reduce merchant prices if the player wants to increase their savings.
