Players can find and capture the legendary Pokémon, Darkrai, in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. For this title’s initial release back on the Nintendo DS back in 2006, Darkrai was only available as part of an event. It’s common for the Pokémon Company to host in-game events that players can download to access new Pokémon or areas within the game. Darkrai is a Dark-type Pokémon that is meant to be the reflection of Cresselia. Players will need to find and catch Cresselia to add it to their collection, as they are both parts of the Lunar Duo, Cresselia focuses on the light and Darkrai is about the darkness.
While Darkrai is currently unavailable in the base game, it is likely that it will be released in a similar manner as the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. In that entry, players were able to collect a special item through Mystery Gift. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players needed to unlock the Mystery Gift feature. Players can currently obtain a free Manaphy in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl through the Mystery Gift. Unlock it by visiting the TV Station in Jubilife City after collecting the first badge, there will be an NPC inside that will give players the Mystery Gift option.
In the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, there is a home with a locked door in Canalave City that players can only enter after collecting the Member Card through the Mystery Gift. This home reappears in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and is currently locked. It’s likely players will be able to access this home in the same methods as the original since the games are so similar.
How To Find and Catch Darkrai in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
If the method is the same, Pokémon players will just need to wait until the event happens. If it does, players will unlock an item through the Mystery Gift that will open the house in Canalave City. Players will also need to catch Cresselia on Fullmoon Island. Players can only do this in the post-game as the sailor in Canalave City will task the player with obtaining the Lunar Feather to help heal his ill son. Players will also need to have access to the National Dex which can only be obtained in the post-game.
With the Mystery Gift item, go to the house behind the Pokémon Center and it should open the door. There will be a man inside and he will mention that he has a reservation for the player. The player will now need to fall asleep in the bed and wake up on Newmoon Island. Here, players will find Darkrai and have the chance to capture it. Players will need to wait until the event to be announced to find Darkrai. Collecting the National Dex and Cresselia will help players prepare ahead of time.
