How to Find (& Catch) Galarian Moltres in Pokémon Crown Tundra DLC

Pokemon Sword and Shield had a major update by way of its second DLC, The Crown Tundra. At the core of this new story, a heavy handful of Legendary pokemon from past regions are making some new appearances in Galar. Players go on an adventure with a deliriously doting dad to solve a few mysteries surrounding this winter oasis, and Legendary Pokemon are right in the middle of it. Appearing with all-new regional forms, players have a chance at catching the legendary bird trio Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos from the Kanto region. Like the others, Moltress is delightfully up for grabs pretty early on so this guide will show players just how to find and catch it.

Moltres had been originally a Fire/Flying-type legendary Pokemon from the Kanto region. The new Glarian Moltress is now a Dark/Flying-type appearing with reddish-pink flames, and a black or dark grey body. It isn’t difficult getting Moltres to appear but it will take some leg work before getting them out in the world of Galar.

How to Find and Catch Moltres in Pokemon Sword & Shield

As stated before, getting Moltres out into the open is going to take a little leg work. The Crown Tundra map doesn’t look very big, but the area is quite spacious for predominantly being a wild zone. After meeting Peony, and attempting to rescue him from the Max Lair, he will provide players with a few maps detailing some important secrets within the region. One of these depicts an enormous pink tree named the Dyna tree, and it’s located at the bottom of the region. Getting there will take a bit of time as well as bobbing and weaving through many wild pokemon. Once arriving there, a cut scene will start showcasing what looks like a confrontation between the 3 legendary birds. Afterward, they will split off into different areas around Galar and players must pursue them in order to battle and catch them.

It turns out Moltres decides to take a visit to the dear old Isle of Armour. This is when things get a little tricky as players have to sort of figure out its flight path and put themselves in front of it. Moltress will spawn at the Field of Honor, then fly a path over the water by the beach. It will circle back around toward the dojo, and then start flying toward the Soothing Wetlands. The best place to stop it is after it almost brushes against the dojo and makes a sudden turn toward the bridge leading to the beach at the Fields of Honor; or as it enters the Soothing Wetlands. All players need to do is literally stand in its path, and it will attack of its own volition. Using the bikes bell might help grab Moltres’ attention, but it should be flying close enough to the ground to react to a player’s presence.
