Pokémon BDSP How To Get The Sea Incense (& What It Does)

The Sea Incense is one of the many items found throughout Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that players can give to their Pokémon to hold. There are many different items in Pokémon BDSP, including stat boosters, berries, items that affect only certain kinds of moves, and more. The Sea Incense is one of the items that only affect certain types of moves and provide a similar breeding effect in Pokémon BDSP that all of the Incense have.

Every Incense in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have two effects: the first being related to Pokémon battles and the other being related to breeding. For example, Pure Incense makes wild Pokémon 30% less likely to appear and can be used to get Chingling eggs. Meanwhile, the Odd Incense boosts the power of Psychic-type moves by 20% and can be used to get Mime Jr. eggs.

The Sea Incense is like a few different items found in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, providing a 20% damage bonus to Water-type moves. This is the same effect that held items like Mystic Water or the Wave Incense in Pokémon BDSP provide in battle, which also means the Sea Incense stacks with the STAB benefit. Together, the STAB benefit and the Sea Incense give an 80% boost to Water-type moves that a Water-type Pokémon use. Though this item is rarely seen in competitive use, players should take advantage of these bonuses in the Battle Tower.

Sea Incense Location in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Players can find their Sea Incense on Route 204 in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The only catch is that players will first need to use the move Surf outside of battle. Surf can first be acquired by speaking with Cynthia’s grandmother in Celestic Town, and it can be used outside of battle after players defeat Fantina, the Hearthhome Gym Leader in Pokémon BDSP. After Surf can be used outside of battle, head to Route 204 and cross the pond on the left immediately entering the route.

For breeding, players can give the Sea Incense to either a female Marill or female Azumarill and breed either Pokémon with another member of their egg group to produce Azurill eggs. Azurill and Marill have a few eggs moves that are separate from one another, such as Azurill’s ability to hatch with Fake Tears and Marill’s ability to hatch with Future Sight. However, competitively speaking, there are not any egg moves that Azurill has that Marill cannot hatch with. Also, because Azurill can be caught in the wild, there isn’t a high demand to breed Azurill specifically. Regardless, both Pokémon are worth grabbing to get an Azumarill in Pokémon BDSP, mainly because it’s one of the best Water-type Pokémon available.
