How to Find (& Catch) Turtwig in Pokémon GO (Sinnoh Collection)

A new collection challenge is available in Pokemon Go. This guide will show players how they can find and catch Turtwig as part of the Sinnoh Collection. This is the 25h anniversary of the Pokemon series and the 5th anniversary of Pokemon Go. To celebrate these monumental events, the game will be hosting special collection events throughout the year. Previously, players were pushed to capture specific Pokemon from the Unova region within a limited time. Upon doing so, players were rewarded with items and a special medal to commemorate completing the challenge. Now, a new collection challenge is here, featuring Pokemon from the Sinnoh region. This guide will show players how they can capture Turtwig.

Turtwig is one of the starter Pokemon from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Players who selected Turtwig were able to experience what it was like to have a Grass-type starter in the region when it first released back on the Nintendo DS. The game released back in 2006 and was a big part of bringing interest back to the Pokemon series after a small decline in popularity with the third generation. Fortunately in Pokemon Go, the spawn rates of Pokemon from the Sinnoh region have increased substantially for this event. Here’s what players need to do in order to find a Turtwig.

How To Find and Catch Turtwig in Pokemon Go (Sinnoh Challenge)

Turtwig is 1 of the 9 available Pokemon that need to be captured for this event. This means players need to actively find the Pokemon in the wild. It will not count if the player hatches one from an egg. Fortunately, there are a few ways for players to increase their chances of finding one. Activating an Incense and placing a Lure at a PokeStop will make it so more Pokemon will spawn for a limited time. During the hour that Incense was activated, 13-15 Turtwigs spawned to be caught. This is also a great way for players to earn enough candy to evolve it into its final form. The starter Pokemon from Sinnoh rarely appears outside of special events so this is the best way to find one if you’ve been missing out. Just stay put and remain patient.

Players will also need to capture Shadow Pokemon for this event for the first time. This includes Snover and Carnidos, Pokemon that can only be captured by defeating Team Rocket Grunts. It’s nice to see them mixing up how to obtain Pokemon in the game.
