How To Get To Route 224 In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

As players explore the Sinnoh region in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, they will eventually find their path to Route 224 blocked by an NPC. Route 224 connects to Victory Road, where players battle the Elite Four and the infamous Champion Cynthia in their quest to become Champion.

To remove the NPC blocking the path to Route 224, players need to obtain the National Pokédex. To unlock the National Pokédex, players must first complete the Sinnoh Pokédex, which requires them to encounter all 150 Pokémon in the Sinnoh region of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. They do not need to capture all 150 Pokémon, but they must see them along their journey. Battling NPC trainers should help players complete most of the Sinnoh Pokédex.

Once a player has completed the Sinnoh Pokédex, they can speak to Professor Rowan at his lab in Sandgem Town. Professor Rowan will gift the player the National Pokédex. Once a player has the National Pokédex, they will find the NPC blocking their path to Route 224 has left.

How To Get To Route 224 In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

In the original Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, Route 224 was a dead-end unless a player acquired the Event Item Oak’s Letter. This item gave players access to the Seabreak Path and Flower Paradise where they could catch the Legendary Pokémon Shaymin. While an event to unlock these areas has not been formally announced for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, an NPC in Floaroma Town gives players a Gracidea Flower, which is used to transform Shaymin from Land Forme to Sky Forme.

There is a glitch on Route 224 in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that allows players to use the Hidden Move Surf to travel to the Seabreak Path and catch the Legendary Pokémon Shaymin. This is not the first time a glitch involving Surf was available to catch Shaymin without the correct Event Item. However, players should note that, if they have already fought the NPC trainer Black Belt Carl on the beach, they will not be able to use the glitch to catch Shaymin.

To take advantage of this glitch, players should fight the three NPC trainers along the beach in front of Black Belt Carl, then head back toward him while pressing A. He will see the player and begin a battle, and the player should defeat him. Once defeated, a message should appear asking players if they would like to Surf.

At this step, players should save their game, as it may take a few attempts to successfully navigate surfing past the Dragon Trainer and reaching the stairs. Trainers should use the staircase on the left until their character is no longer visible. At this stage, they should save and restart. When they restart the game, their character should be floating. The player should again save and restart.

When players restart for the second time, they should be flying above the stairs. From here, players can navigate across the trees and rocks ahead. At this point, they can stop using Surf and walk in the shallow water. Players should head forward and to the right until they reach an invisible wall. By pressing A, players should be prompted to use Surf. There is a narrow vertical path that players can travel until they reach Flower Paradise. There, players can find and catch the Legendary Shaymin early.
