The Isle of Armor DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield has reintroduced a fan-favorite mechanic back into the main series Pokemon games. Trainers can now take their Pokemon out of their Pokeballs and have them follow the player in the overworld. Each Pokemon is a different size and walks at a different speed ranging from super-fast to stagnant. And the inclusion of this mechanic has fans raving about the new Isle of Armor DLC.

There are a few things that a trainer will need to accomplish before they are allowed to bring their Pokemon out for a walk. The Isle of Armor is made up of a series of trials, and the player will have to complete a few of them first. Players will also have to be on the Isle of Armor for their Pokemon to follow them, but there is plenty to areas to explore on the island so that shouldn’t be too big of a deal.

As mentioned before, players will need to complete a few challenges before they can have Pokemon follow them. Players will need to complete the island’s first three challenges and will need to defeat their new rival in battle in a battle to gain this ability.

The first two trials are fetch-quests that have players exploring the island in search of different items. The first has players battling three fast Slowpoke and retrieving a piece of clothing from each one. The second trial has the player searching for Max Mushrooms and leading up to a battle against either Avery or Klara depending on which game the player has. And the third trial is a battle an even more intense battle against the player’s new rival.

After the player wins the final battle they will be rewarded with the new legendary Pokemon, Kubfu. Master Mustard will then inform the player that they can now have a Pokemon follow them while they travel around the Isle of Armor. Now, the first Pokemon in the player’s party will follow them by default. In order to switch which Pokemon follows the trainer, all they need to do is switch which Pokemon is in the first slot of the player’s team. This function cannot be turned off, but can only be used while on the Isle of Armor, and presumably the Crown Tundra.
