Season 5 has just dropped for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, bringing with it a ton of new content between the multiplayer game modes and Warzone. While the battle royale mode saw some significant map changes, specifically in the opening of the stadium and train station locations, as well as a new armored train that rotates around the map, traditional multiplayer saw its fair share of updates as well.

Four brand new maps joined the rotation, including Suldal Harbor, Petrov Oil Rig for 6v6 matches, Livestock as a new Gunfight map, and the Warzone-inspired Verdansk Int’l Airport added to Ground War. Season 5 keeps the tradition of adding two new weapons with every season, this time introducing the ISO SMG and AN-94 assault rifles.

All players will be able to unlock these two new guns for free, but there’s more than one way to go about it. Keep reading if you want to know how to play with these new weapons online.

How To Unlock The AN-94

The AN-94 has been in seven previous Call of Duty titles before this one, so anyone who has been a fan of the franchise should feel right at home holding this assault rifle. It was even in the last entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, so having it back only makes sense. This gun is described as a Russian assault rifle with a “unique hyper burst feature,” meaning the first shot will be fully automatic, with additional volleys having a “significant” recoil attached. This gun can deal a ton of damage in a short amount of time, and the high recoil can be compensated for by adding on a receiver.

Because of the gun’s strength, it will take a longer amount of time to unlock than the ISO SMG. If you’re working through the free Season 5 battle pass, you’re going to have to make it all the way to Tier 31 before it becomes available. Once you’ve got your hands on it, though, you can customize it with six muzzle attachments, three barrels, three lasers, 20 optics options, five stocks, 13 underbarrels, two ammo types, and three rear grips.

How To Unlock The ISO SMG

The APC9 ISO, or just ISO, is all about dealing out bullets as fast as possible. Infinity Ward themselves describe the gun as “lightweight, reliable, and compact.” They go on to say it is best at “controlling the battlefield at close ranges,” meaning players who like to keep on the move in tight spaces will love this weapon.

This gun will come much faster in the battle pass than the AN-94, showing up at just Tier 15 to unlock. Just like every other gun in the game, the ISO has a ton of attachments to play with. There’s seven muzzles, four barrels, three lasers, 17 optics, four stocks, five underbarrels, two ammo types, and three rear grips.

To Grind Or Not To Grind

Both guns are totally free if you have the time and patience to grind out the battle pass to unlock them both. The ISO shouldn’t take too much time, but getting to Tier 31 for the AN-94 might be a bit too much of a commitment for some players just looking to get their hands on the new guns.

If so, there’s always the option to buy either the Battle Pass Bundle or the entire Battle Pass. The bundle automatically skips you up 20 tiers in the pass, unlocking all the rewards along the way, including the ISO. You can focus on either playing out the remaining tiers to 31, or purchasing more tiers individually if that’s still too much. Finally, you can just get it all right away by purchasing the entire Battle Pass, although that option is quite expensive.
