In Pokémon Sword & Shield Machoke Will Chase You Down And Beat Your Ass

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Machoke will chase you down should you cross its eye line, so you had better come prepared.

The latest chapter of the Pokémon franchise is fast approaching. Sword and Shield will be released on Nintendo Switch later this year. Thanks to E3, we now know a fair bit about the game. While most is good news, the revelation that trainers will not be able to transfer other Pokémon into the game has left some gamers a little peeved, to say the least.

That’s due to the fact players of Sword and Shield will quite literally not be able to “catch ’em all.” We’re going to try and focus on the positive rather than the negative though, and some of the great aspects of the game we witnessed at E3. We were treated to a bumper 21 minutes of gameplay, which you can check out below, and the bulk of it has us eagerly anticipating the release of the games on November 15, 2019.

Much like Pokémon Let’s Go, trainers will be able to pick and choose which Pokémon they choose to encounter, battle, and attempt to catch. However, in Sword and Shield, it might not be as simple as merely bumping into them. Some Pokémon will need to be approached with caution as if you startle them, they might run away. Others can be whistled at in order to get their attention.

However, we would not recommend whistling at a wild Machoke should you happen upon one. As you can see in the video above, around the 10:00 mark, there’s nothing timid about Machoke in Sword and Shield. Once the muscular Pokémon catches a glimpse of the trainer, it begins to flex and then eventually runs at them. That reality combined with the new ground-level viewpoint makes for quite the terrifying experience. Also, Machoke don’t wear underwear – that’s their skin.

If you have a capable team of Pokémon ready and raring to go when a Machoke runs at you, then the initial fear of being chased down by the bipedal Pokémon should subside once the battle begins. However, if you venture out into the Galar region unprepared, things will not end well for you. Plus, we’re assuming Machoke won’t be the only Pokémon in Sword and Shield that won’t hesitate to chase down trainers.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite.
