Nintendo’s RPG series Pokemon is all about finding a team of monsters to bond with over the course of an adventure across fantastical Regions based on real-world places, which is why many were upset when Pokemon Sword and Shield removed the National Pokedex and made it impossible to bring certain Pokemon into the modern era.

Though that concern has been rectified by the cloud-based storage service Pokemon Home and the announcement that DLC Expansions would bring more Pokemon to Galar, some may still be unable to connect with their old friends for other reasons. That’s the basis of the “FindPookoo” campaign launched May 3 on the r/pokemon subreddit, in which a user named SlinkierOak is trying to find a “precious” male Pidove they lost in 2013.

The Pidove, nicknamed Pookoo, “should be a relatively low level” and has an original trainer name like Mike or Michael according to SlinkierOak, now a 20 year old with fond memories of the Pokemon that was sent out over Wonder Trade in Pokemon X and Y after an argument with a friend. They apparently started a similar venture on the Wii U’s Miiverse before that shut down in 2017, and though they recognize it’s a long shot they hope Reddit can help facilitate a reunion.

As of this writing SlinkierOak’s Reddit post has over 5,600 upvotes and 260 comments, but it does not appear anyone has found Pookoo. The Normal and Flying-type “Tiny Pigeon” Pokemon was first introduced in the Generation 5 games set in the Unova Region, based on New York City. It has two evolutions, Tranquill and Unfezant, with all three being introduced into Niantic’s AR mobile game Pokemon GO in September 2019.

Pokemon is currently the highest-grossing media franchise of all time according to TitleMax, even above properties like Star Wars, Hello Kitty, and fellow Nintendo flagship Mario. With that huge a reach there are no doubt hundreds of thousands of people around the world who adore the series and individual monsters within it, which explains the vast amount of Pokemon-inspired content in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and other creative games.

The Generation 5 Pokemon games, Black and White, as well as their sequels, hold a particularly strong place in the hearts of many due to being the final titles with sprite-based art styles and a number of cool Legendary Pokemon. Though SlinkierOak did not meet their friend Pookoo until Generation 6, it’s inspiring to see how much that love carried through. Hopefully they have luck finding their Pidove soon.
