With the Isle of Armor expansion officially released for Pokémon Sword & Shield, players can now embark on a whole new journey and encounter a whole new set of Pokémon. Before the expansion released though, it was revealed that wild Pokémon and trainers would scale to the levels of the Pokémon on a player’s team. Basically, players would be able to battle Pokémon from any point in the game and not stomp through the expansion with a team consisting of level 100 Pokémon. However, many have recently found out that that is not quite the case.

Shortly after the Isle of Armor expansion came out, multiple reports surfaced online with players stating that Pokémon encounters are not scaling up to their Pokémon’s level. Players with level 100 Pokémon are encountering level 60 Pokémon, while players whose Pokémon are a much lower level are encountering far more powerful Pokémon. This led many to become confused and question whether level scaling was actually occuring.

Furthermore, dataminers on Twitter were able to dig through the expansion’s code and found out that level scaling does not work as originally stated. According to what they were able to find out, all levels of encountered Pokémon are around level 60 if players are at the end of the game or were able to beat the main story. On top of that, the dataminers believe that Pokémon in the Isle of Armor expansion scale based on how many badges players have, though there are conflicting reports that claim encountering low level Pokémon while having all eight badges.

Despite all of the information currently showing up on the internet, it is difficult to paint a proper picture of the situation and fully understand what is going on. For the most part, many players are thinking that the information that was originally provided was inaccurate and that in reality, Isle of Armor Pokémon encounters scale the exact same way they do in the Wild Area in the main games. Hopefully, Nintendo or The Pokémon Company will be able to clarify the situation and explain how level scaling actually works in the Isle of Armor expansion.
