With few exceptions, it seems like Mike Myers has only ever been in films from a handful of franchises – Shrek, Austin Powers, and Wayne’s World. Other than appearances in documentaries, these three franchises make up most of his filmography. He didn’t even appear on the big screen until the success of his SNL allowed him and costar Dana Carvey to make the first Wayne’s World movie.

Leaving out the franchises leaves a few surprising roles for the funnyman – he’s even managed to appear in a couple of dramas and these films deserve a watch for any fan who wants to check out a man known for such over the top antics playing against type.

In this iconic biopic about the life of legendary Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury, Myers plays Ray Foster, who refuses to release the band’s now-iconic single “Bohemian Rhapsody” as a single. This leads Mercury to convince DJ Kenny Everett to play the song on his show without the record company’s blessing.

Obviously, the song became a hit and remains one of the band’s most well-known songs to this day. It was a bit of stunt casting Mike Myers on the studio’s part – the song was launched to a second wave of popularity on the back of Myer’s hit movie, Wayne’s World in 1992.

Fenech’s plan is what sets the events of the movie into motion – assassinate the German High Command at a movie premiere. Myers was actually cast in the movie at his own request, being both a fan of Tarantino — and the child of parents who were in the British service.

7 The Love Guru (2008)

While fans probably didn’t forget Myers was in this movie, they may have forgotten it ever existed. The Love Guru was seemingly an attempt to hit whatever spot in movie-going appetites that the Austin Powers series had fed, with Myers playing a guru that’s only actually reminiscent of the parody spy’s charms in that he’s an over the top caricature.

Presumably, Guru Pitka is a sendup of Deepak Chopra, the real-life guru Pitka is constantly referencing when he talks about him being the number one in his field.
