Summer is starting to draw to a close, but there is still at least one major Pokemon GO event to come before September arrives. Players can take a quick break from daydreaming about the upcoming September Ultra Bonus events to begin planning for Water Festival 2019. The annual event is one of the most popular recurring features of the game, thanks to the fact that so many adorable and beloved Pokemon happen to be Water-types, so late August should be a very exciting time for trainers.
Pokemon GO players will likely be working through Jirachi Research next month, but for now it’s all about the Water-types. The event is bringing a few new shiny creatures to hunt down, increased Water-type spawns and egg hatches, and the return of Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf to five-star raids (for a limited time during the event).
The upcoming event kicks off on August 23 and many of the bonuses last all the way through August 30. Don’t expect to see the Lake Trio populating five-star Raids during that whole time though. That particular bonus is only available during a special Raid Hour on August 28 from 6 pm – 7 pm local time.
Bonuses
2× Hatch Candy
Water-type Pokemon buddies gain candy at half of the usual distance.
Water-type Pokemon like Magikarp, Wooper, Wailmer, and more will appear more frequently in the wild.
The following Pokemon will be appearing more frequently in the wild around water: Wartortle, Poliwhirl, Seaking, Lapras, Qwilfish, Mantine, Lotad, Feebas, Piplup, Buizel, and Finneon.
Water-type Pokémon will hatch more often from Eggs.
Kingler and Crawdaunt will be able to learn Crabhammer, a Water-type Charged Attack.
Shiny Carvanha or Shiny Barboach will be released into the wild.
This event features a ton of exciting bonuses for both collectors and end-game players. There are some great opportunities to pick up new Water-types for PvE and PvP rosters and the chance to add some new shiny Pokemon to your collection. Those bonuses combined should be enough to get a ton of players out and about during the Water Festival.
Collecting shiny Pokemon doesn’t give the trainer any kind of advantage in battle, but it is still a fun additional challenge to add into the game. Shiny Pokemon are perfect for leaving in Gyms to show off to the rest of the community.
