Insider Claims That Street Fighter 6 Will Be Announced Next Week

Street Fighter 6 will reportedly be announced on Monday, February 21.

Earlier in the week, Capcom started to tease its next project using a countdown clock. The design of the timer is incredibly plain and doesn’t leave much to the imagination, with most speculating that it has something to do with Resident Evil Village’s paid DLC. However, several insiders are now claiming that it’s a countdown timer for Street Fighter 6.

GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb recently talked about the countdown clock on his GrubbSnax podcast, revealing that it’s counting down towards a new Street Fighter. As reported by VGC, Grubb says, “Everybody should expect Street Fighter 6, because that’s what I have heard” during the podcast.

This lines up with the timing on the countdown clock, which currently has a reveal planned for 6am GMT/ 1am ET on Monday, February 21. This is also exactly when the Street Fighter Pro Tour Season Final ends, which seems like the perfect time to announce the next iteration of Street Fighter.

Despite having not been announced yet, we’ve known that a sixth Street Fighter has been in the works for some time, or at least that some of its main concepts had been decided. Luke, the final DLC character for Street Fighter 5, has been called “the future of Street Fighter” and a “major” part of the future of Street Fighter, all but confirming that something new is in the works. What Luke has to do with the future of Street Fighter is yet another unknown, but it seems like it won’t be long until we find out.

Considering Street Fighter 5 was controversially made a PlayStation exclusive, it’s not clear whether Street Fighter 6 will follow the same trend. It seems unlikely considering the backlash that the initial decision received, as well as the fact that Capcom has reportedly started, “has started submitting new contests (game + addons) to the Microsoft Store” according to Microsoft leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia.
