Taking screenshots is an essential feature of any phone, and it’s something Apple makes incredibly easy to do on the iPhone 13. Of all the smartphones released in 2021, the iPhone 13 series has some of the best options. From the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, all the way up to the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, there’s a lot to like with Apple’s latest handsets. They’re designed well, have excellent displays, outstanding cameras, and so on.

As phones become more advanced and complicated, however, knowing how to do certain things isn’t always apparent. It’s no secret that the iPhone 13 Pro Max has legendary battery life, but how in the world does someone close an app on the phone? There’s also a lot of talk about the iPhone 13’s many camera features, yet knowing how to actually use these things can be more challenging than expected.

The same is true of taking screenshots on the iPhone 13. Although not immediately apparent, screenshotting the phone’s display can be done in seconds. On any iPhone 13 model, press the power/lock button + volume-up button at the same time. Just like that, a screenshot is taken (as represented by a small flash on the display and a preview of the screenshot appearing in the bottom-left corner). Leaving it at that will save the screenshot just as it was taken. However, users can also tap the screenshot preview to see additional controls — including shortcuts for deleting the screenshot, sharing it with someone, or editing it with drawing tools.

How To Record Your iPhone 13’s Screen

Along with taking still images of the iPhone 13’s screen, it’s also possible to record a video of what’s happening on it. To do this, make sure the Screen Recording shortcut is in the iPhone 13’s Control Center. Open the Settings app, tap ‘Control Center,’ and tap the ‘+’ icon next to ‘Screen Recording’ in the More Controls section. If it’s already showing up in the Included Controls area, it’s ready to go: Swipe down from the top-right corner of the display, tap the Screen Recording shortcut (the one that looks like two circles), and wait for the countdown to finish. Once the shortcut starts flashing red, that means it’s recording! To end the recording at any time, tap the flashing red icon in the top-left corner and tap ‘Stop’ on the pop-up to confirm.

So, where are all these screenshots and screen recordings saved? They go directly to the Apple Photos app and appear on the main Library page. Additionally, the Photos app has built-in tools for filtering screenshots and screen recordings from all other photos/videos in the app. Open the Photos app, tap the ‘Albums’ button on the bottom navigation bar, and then tap ‘Screenshots’ or ‘Screen Recordings’ to see either one.
