The fun action-packed world created by Kohei Horikoshi is enjoyed and loved by many fans, but is My Hero Academia suitable for kids to enjoy too?

My Hero Academia was first a manga created by Kohei Horikoshi that then became a widely successful anime. The show has had four seasons, and fans keep getting added to the ranks of the fandom daily. But, should children be amongst the large group of My Hero Academia fans?

Being a shounen, it is intended for a younger audience. The shounen genre primarily aims for children under the age of fifteen. Being a series that follows super-powered heroes, there is violence and lots of blood throughout. Language and some profanity that might not be suitable for younger kids should be expected as well. However, My Hero Academia is a show with heart-filled lessons for viewers of all ages.

My Hero Academia takes place in a world where citizens are born with abilities referred to as quirks. Because of this, schools are established to better equip and train young aspiring heroes with quirks. One of those schools is U.A. The main character is one, Izuku Midoriya, better known as Deku. Izuku is born quirk-less but is obsessed with becoming the world’s best Hero. Not to give much away, but he does gain powers as the series is about him gaining control of his quirk. Other characters the show focuses on are Izuku’s classmates. Class 1-A is an assortment of different students with a variety of characteristics.Some of the students are as follows. class representative Tenya Iida is ultra-serious about his studies and becomes Izuku’s best friend. Izuku’s other fast friend is Ochaca, one of the female students in the class. Momo Yayorozu is another, and possibly a reason viewers might not think it’s suitable for kids due to the risque design of the character and her clothes. Minoru Mineta, class 1-A’s smallest member, is a character with the quirk of producing grape-like sticky balls from his head and is also the resident perv. Always hitting on female characters he encounters, he is another reason one could point at saying it’s not appropriate for children. Bakugo is an intense character that is immensely powerful and has gruesome fight sequences. Most of the series’ characters have dangerous powers that can cause severe damage, calling for bloody fight scenes. Some characters quirks end up harming themselves when in use, such as Kirishima and Izuku himself.

The series is a little intense and should not be taken lightly. Some of the subjects and situations the characters go through are pretty serious. The characters have to grow, and through the years, there has been a lot of growth. With that growth, they have had to overcome some dark stuff. Not to mention, some terrifying villains. The villains in My Hero Academia are scary to most adults, so children might have nightmares due to some of them.

Overall though the manga and anime series is light-hearted and fun. Parental guidance is advised, but this world is for all audiences. So, is My Hero Academia suitable for kids? Not necessarily, but this universe will be enjoyed by anyone who encounters it.
