With VALORANT finally upon us in an official capacity as of a little over a week ago, players are still wondering when exactly the game will receive its ranked mode.
After a closed beta period of two months, VALORANT got its full release on June 2nd, and since then players all over the world have been clamoring to get in on the action. But weirdly enough, there’s been a fair amount of pessimism since then about Riot Games’ first-person tactical shooter, showing clearly through Metacritic’s conglomeration of average-at-best ratings from users (while critics’ reviews are pretty damn stellar by contrast).
One thing that is grinding some players’ gears – or at least tickling them a little – is the question of when a ranked mode is going to be implemented. Said mode was included in the closed beta but was excluded upon the game’s official release. Here’s all that we know about the matter for the time being:
Firstly, Riot Games has confirmed that it will happen, after a little while. The ranked competitive playlist will indeed be brought into the game after a handful of post-launch patches are implemented. Secondly, we know this decision was made carefully by the developers in order to ensure that the game in its purest form is polished and good to go based on initial player feedback, before the focus is shifted to competitive matchmaking.
On its official blog, Riot Games states the following on the matter:
Similar to our closed beta launch, our initial focus is making sure our service is stable before activating competitive matchmaking. This is also a way to give new players the same courtesy that closed beta players had to learn the game ahead of turning on Competitive. We’ll also make some adjustments to Competitive based on remaining closed beta player feedback.
Lastly, and unfortunately, we still don’t have any confirmed date for the feature’s arrival. So for now, rest assured it shall be so, go forth, give the game a fair shot (so to speak), and have some fun while doing so.
