All the way back in March, Google announced its Stadia Games and Entertainment division. This seemingly confirmed its interest in making first-party titles for its anticipated streaming platform, Stadia. Google has now officially unveiled the first of these development studios, a company based in Montréal that will be led by industry veteran Jade Raymond.

Raymond has previous experience at Ubisoft Montréal, where she was a producer for the original Assassin’s Creed and an executive producer for Assassin’s Creed II, Watch Dogs, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

In Google’s blog, she wrote that Montréal is a city with “an amazing gaming legacy,” likely referencing studios like Warner Bros., Eidos, EA Montréal, and her own former employer. It’s likely that Google will have access to plenty of talent by opening its own studio in the city.

“Stadia Games and Entertainment’s studio will produce exclusive, original content across a diverse portfolio of games in all your favorite genres,” Raymond writes. “Stadia is designed to be one destination for all the ways people play games—and Montréal is where we’re going to start building them.”

The announcement was also accompanied by an invitation to apply for open positions within the studio for experienced artists, programmers, and producers. Since Stadia isn’t restricted by hardware limitations, it’ll be interesting to see what kinds of games the studio will be able to design or if they’ll be able to take advantage of Stadia’s potential.

This announcement marks Google’s first major foray into the world of AAA game development. The success of the titles it makes could potentially make or break Stadia as a whole. No timeline for first-party titles or announcements has been given at this time.

Stadia is launching with mostly existing titles and zero exclusives. Both the Founder’s Edition and Premiere Edition come with a free copy of Destiny 2: The Collection, with many other popular titles available for purchase. The full list can be found here.

Google Stadia’s premium version will be available starting on Nov. 19th, with a wider release slated for 2020. The Premiere Edition, which includes a controller, Chromecast Ultra, Destiny 2: The Collection and a three-month subscription to Stadia Pro is currently available for pre-order.
