What happened to Luna Lovegood after the events of Harry Potter? Actress Evanna Lynch portrayed the character beginning with the fifth installment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Since the Harry Potter series ended, author J.K. Rowling has provided insight into Luna’s fate.

Despite not appearing until midway through the Harry Potter franchise, Luna instantly became a fan-favorite character due to her quirky behavior. Her eccentric demeanor made her a target of ridicule from many of her Hogwarts classmates, but nothing stopped her from being true to herself. Luna was also one of Harry’s earliest supporters, believing that her schoolmate’s warnings about Lord Voldemort’s return were true.

Luna’s allegiance to Harry went on to greatly affect her remaining years at Hogwarts. She was invited to join Dumbledore’s Army, an underground group established by Harry, Ron, and Hermione to properly teach Defense Against the Dark Arts. Luna became a prominent member of the group, participating in a number of battles against the Death Eaters. She was later kidnapped and held hostage at Malfoy Manor before Dobby and her friends came to her rescue. Luna answered the call to help fight during the Battle of Hogwarts. She was shown bravely dueling the Death Eaters, particularly taking on Bellatrix Lestrange alongside Hermione and Ginny.

In the years following Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Luna became a famous Magizoologist. She searched the world in the hopes of discovering strange new creatures. Luna went on to discover many magical creatures, but she was never able to find Crumple-Horned Snorkack, something that she and her father spent years searching for. She later married fellow Magizoologist, Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander. During the wedding, Luna wore a dress decorated with rainbows and a tiara equipped with unicorn horns. Luna and Rolf eventually had twin sons, Lorcan and Lysander.

Luna remained close friends with Harry, Ron, and Hermione well into adulthood. She certainly made an impression on Harry since he named his daughter Lily Luna Potter. The middle name was in honor of his “dear friend” Luna Lovegood. Her support and encouragement during the Second Wizarding War meant a great deal to Harry. She was also one of the most skilled and intelligent magical beings he had ever met.

According to Rowling, Luna and Rolf attended the 2014 Quidditch World Cup. Many of the other members of Dumbledore’s Army were also in attendance and the group sat in the VIP boxes. Harry Potter fans were happy to learn that Luna never changed. She was described as wearing a dress adorned with the flags of all sixteen teams competing for the Cup. However, she didn’t wear one of her famous special event hats at the suggestion of her husband.
