The first images of Killing Eve season 4 show Villanelle and Eve ready to bring their volatile obsession with each other to an end, one way or another, in what will be the show’s final season. Killing Eve stars Jodie Comer as Villanelle, the charming but deeply troubled assassin whose unhealthy fixation with Sandra Oh’s Eve. The unexpected connection between the murderer and off-the-books MI6 agent sends the pair in a cat-and-mouse game that only pushes the two closer together. Killing Eve’s success has been measured by a string of awards, including BAFTA for best drama in 2019, and has only led the series’ leads to even bigger stardom. Comer, in particular, has celebrated two major film releases over the past year, with Free Guy and The Last Duel, while Grey’s Anatomy alum Oh will star in the upcoming Sam Raimi-produced horror Umma.
Based on the Villanelle book series by author Luke Jennings, the show has garnered plenty of attention over its relatively short run. Thanks to fantastic writing and a dark comedic streak spread through its thriller DNA, Killing Eve has shaped itself as a truly unique take on the spy genre. Each season has slowly pushed Eve and Villanelle together, going from enemies in season 1 to the pair having undeniable chemistry by the end of season 3. Killing Eve season 3 also left fans with many unanswered questions, none of which as significant as where Eve and Villanelle will go next after the pair decided not to say a final goodbye in the season finale. With season 4 now only a couple of months away, fans haven’t got long to wait to find out what consequences the pair’s obsession with each other will have.
Shared by Digital Spy, the first look at Comer and Oh in Killing Eve season 4 set the show up for a typically wild final run. In one image, Comer is framed by wall art of a pair of dusty pink angel wings, while in another, Oh is seen wearing a disguise in front of the London Bridge. Two other images show supporting cast members Fiona Shaw and Camille Cottin as Carolyn Martens and Hélène, respectively. Check out the images below:
The images are hot on the heels of a recently released teaser trailer, which confirmed a February release date for Killing Eve season 4. While the teaser focuses on closing the door to the past, showing the burning of recognisable items from the show’s first three seasons, the photos look to the future of the series, with Eve’s disguise hinting that she’s fully committed to following Villanelle’s secretive, and deadly, way of life. It also looks like Hélène will again be the show’s main antagonist, the high-ranking member of The Twelve still determined to get Villanelle back in the organisation, even after the events of the season 3 finale.
While Killing Eve is coming to an end, there’s already talk of a potential spinoff being in development, keeping fans hopeful for a return to the show’s universe, even if Comer has denied any involvement in any such project. With the pair looking to continue into season 4 together, only time will tell if Eve and Villanelle will fall under the weight of their messy, unhealthy relationship, or find a way of making their unusual pairing work. Killing Eve season 4 will look to answer these questions, and will likely be killing off some more characters along the way.
