His journey is filled with many trials and traumas, and he has many heroic moments as well as times where he is a victim. Fans of the series often felt inspired by him, but there were also those times where they felt bad for him.

10 Inspiring: Enduring being the Ring Bearer

Over the course of the three books and films, Frodo has to go through a lot as he carries the One Ring. The Ring is a bride in and of itself that causes a person to feel weighed down, depressed, and to lose themselves in the Ring.

It’s clear that carrying this item hurts him greatly, but, while it’s sad to see this, it’s also inspiring how long it takes him to feel tempted by it.

9 Felt Sorry: Being taken by Faramir to Gondor

In The Two Towers, Faramir ends up taking Frodo and Sam as prisoners, and he plans to take the Ring to Gondor. Faramir is clearly very misguided, and, even though he is a good person, he feels he has to do this.

It was really frustrating to see Frodo and Sam get waylaid like this, and it was definitely a relief when Faramir let them go.

While Frodo is inspiring in many ways, Sam might be even more so. Without Sam, Frodo definitely wouldn’t have been able to make it to Mount Doom at all.

While the Ring sometimes makes Frodo lash out at Sam, he does realize how good Sam is to him. When he tells Sam that he wouldn’t have made it very far without him, it’s really heartwarming and inspiring.

7 Felt Sorry: When Boromir tried to steal the Ring from him

Because of the power of the Ring, Frodo becomes a target for many people, but it’s not just enemies that come after her. There are also many allies, and even members of the Fellowship, who nearly succumbs to the Ring’s power, and Boromir is one of these people.

He attacks Frodo and tries to take the Ring, and it’s clear at this moment just how powerful this piece of jewelry is. This is definitely a hard moment for Frodo as he realizes what he will have to do.

While getting attacked by Boromir made fans feel sorry for Frodo, seeing Frodo realize that he would have to leave the Fellowship in order to make it to Mordor was rather inspiring.


He was able to see what he needed to do, and even though it was a scary thing to choose to do, it shows how strong Frodo can be.

5 Felt Sorry: Getting stabbed by the Morgul blade

Even before Frodo decides to be the Ringbearer officially, he has to suffer because of the Ring. While traveling with the other Hobbits and Aragorn, the Ring-Wraiths catch up to them at Weathertop, and there Frodo is stabbed by the Morgul Blade.

This wound impacts him for the rest of his life and seeing it happen definitely made people feel sorry for him.

4 Inspiring: When he tried his best to save Gollum

Gollum is one of the most tragic creatures from The Lord of the Rings. While he is rather loathsome, there is something about him that is quite sad.

Frodo sees what the Ring has done to him and wants to be able to help him because he understands the Ring’s power. While this doesn’t work out well, there is something admirable about it.

3 Felt Sorry: Being captured by Shelob and then orcs

There are many scary things that happen to Frodo while on the journey, but one of the scariest of them all is when he gets stung by Shelob and almost eaten by her.

While Sam saves him from Shelob, Frodo is then captured by the orcs. This was a really intense period of time for Frodo, but luckily Sam was there to save him.

2 Inspiring: When he said he would take the Ring to Mordor

After Frodo takes the Ring to Rivendell, he could have just let someone else try to take care of it. Instead, he realizes that he is the one who has the best chance of getting rid of the Ring and accomplishing the task.

It’s an inspiring and somber moment when he decides to tell the Council of Elrond that he will take the Ring.

1 Felt Sorry: The final stretch of the trek to Mount Doom

One of the most difficult to watch parts of the series is when Frodo and Sam are nearly to Mount Doom. It’s clear at this part that Frodo is nearly dying, and he is in a lot of pain.

Watching him struggle to take the Ring all the way to Mount Doom is definitely hard, and many fans felt sorry for everything he had to go through.
