A Minecraft player has built a giant sculpture of Shrek’s head purely out of emerald blocks, making it ominously (or gloriously, depending on one’s love for Shrek) overhang the surrounding landscape. Although the statue is hardly one of the most impressive Minecraft builds ever made, it nonetheless demands some attention.

Over the years, Minecraft players have collectively created a virtually infinite number of impressive projects, which drastically vary in style and purpose. There have been sprawling modern cities, massive medieval kingdoms, giant mansions, and entire server-spanning fantasy worlds recreating the fictional realms of Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings. There’s even a 1:1 scale replica of Earth in an impressive Minecraft mod. And now, the anti-social keeper of the swamps raises his green head above the innocent land of Minecraft in yet another user-created build.

Redditor Vote_Crim_2020 has created a massive Shrek’s head in Minecraft, using tons of rare emerald blocks. Though the post gained quick popularity, fellow players pointed out the build’s most obvious flaw: the Shrek bust should have been built in the swamp biome. As is the case with most large-scale 3D Minecraft sculptures, this one was made in an external program and imported, but that doesn’t make it any less intimidating or amazing.

Recently, another enthusiastic Minecraft player used scientific data to recreate the state of Hawaii, which is a fair bit larger than the Shrek bust. The build also relied on using side programs and apps to make it possible, otherwise even a group of gamers would’ve spent years trying to replicate the archipelago. Based on the detailed data, which was collected from the official sources, the player-made Hawaiian Islands in Minecraft are incredibly realistic, despite being created on a 1:45 scale. Unlike this Shrek build (at least for now), anyone can explore that map thanks to a world save file available for download.

Obviously, the fact that Shrek’s head was simply imported into Minecraft’s landscape is belittling the author’s merit. It is worth noting, though, that building such a massive statue by hand would’ve probably resulted in much poorer quality and detailing. On top of that, collecting enough emerald blocks in Survival would’ve turned into an epic months-long quest, which definitely would’ve not been worth the effort.
