The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been one of the most popular franchises for years, and there is certainly no end in sight. These superheroes have been known and loved by many, many fans, and every aspect of them has been debated and dissected. Of course, not even these legends can save themselves from the internet.

With social media, everyone has accepted that there are just some pretty cliché and stereotypical “bad ex-boyfriend” types. It’s time to dive in and label these characters based on how they’d probably act post-relationship. Even a superhero has to be an ex.

10 Steve Rogers – The One That Got Away

Steve Rogers is America’s sweetheart for good reason, and there’s a lot of great things on paper about this guy. He’s smart, ambitious, charming, and romantic. He’s a guy that’s there to warm your heart and check off all the boxes.

However, you might break it off because the chemistry and passion just weren’t there. Still, you’ll look back and realize that you can’t really do better than Captain America.

9 Scott Lang – The Ex With Benefits

Scott Lang might not be total marriage material for most fans, but they’d be more than happy to hang out with and have a drink and get all close and personal.

You’d date Ant-Man and then realize you’re better friends. Of course, there may be some benefits on the side, because you can’t resist texting him late at night for some laughs.

8 Natasha Romanoff – The Heart-Breaker

This ex is impossible to forget. They’ll pop into your mind when you’re lonely or bored, and then you’ll also remember that they shattered your heart into a million pieces.

They’re mysterious, charming, beautiful, and more, and they’ll likely just break your heart over and over again – if you gave them the chance. Still, you don’t hate them. No one could ever hate Natasha, but it’s not hard to see that the Black Widow has broken some hearts.

7 T’Challa – The ‘Good On Paper’ Guy

There’s honestly nothing wrong with T’Challa on paper. He’s ambitious, strong, independent, funny, and totally handsome. Of course, T’Challa isn’t the most sensitive or present guy.

There’s something missing in this relationship, regardless of how much your parents love him. There are no hard feelings, but he’s just too perfect to make it work.

6 Peter Parker – The ‘Nice Guy’

This ex is super sweet. He’s caring, innocent, and a ton of fun. He will always make you feel loved, but then it turns out he might not be ready for a serious relationship.

Not only is Peter still young, but he’s that sweet as pie guy that’s impossible to hate but also pretty hard to get to be serious. At the very least, you’ve never dated anybody nicer, and this Spider-Man is still lovable.

5 Bruce Banner – The Back-Up Plan

Bruce Banner is probably too good for anyone, and it’s really, really hard to actually hate this character. If he was an ex, he’d always be on the back burner of your mind.

At 40, he’d be your back-up, and the two of you have already promised each other that you’d be together before you were lonely. Bruce would be a great guy to just be with – even if he was the Hulk.

4 Carol Danvers – The Avoidable One

This stereotype is all about a relationship that ends really, really poorly. You’ll break up, but somehow, you still cross paths – and every time is an absolute horror.

It was messy, and although they were a great person, this relationship just isn’t one to look back on. Captain Marvel has a lot of spunk, but she’d also probably be this kind of ex. All fans have seen her spite and her ambition.

3 Thor – The On-And-Off Again

This one might hit Jane Foster a little too close to home. Thor is the God of Thunder, and he has a lot on his plate. He’s fun, hilarious, and can be totally romantic, but he’s also off in his own world half the time.

You’ll break things off, but then he’ll come back for the weekend and you’ll fall in love all over again. He’s hard to let go of, and who would want to give up on Thor?

2 Clint Barton – The Ghost

Hawkeye has had some bad luck, but it’s actually become pretty obvious that he’d be the ghost – since he actually did basically disappear off the face of the planet (after 50% of people actually did).

The ghost just vanishes after a breakup. Before one could even ask themselves what went wrong or talk about closure, they’d be gone before you could blink. Clint is there for some laughs, but if things got ugly, he’d be long gone.

1 Tony Stark – The ‘Bad Boy’

This is the ex that your parents hated and that always fired you up, but somehow, you still can’t forget the fun and spontaneity of the relationship.

They swept you off your feet – and they’re mysterious and fun and smart and charming. There’s nothing but fond memories here, but you know you couldn’t make it last for a reason. Tony Stark is everyone’s ‘bad boy’.
