Warning! Spoilers for Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads #4 by Marvel Comics below

Marvel Comics just revealed that the Celestials had their own version of the Infinity Stones, which allowed them to traverse across the galaxy as the Marvel Universe had just begun to form. In Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads #4, the Deviants explain the Celestials created Norn Stones for their own use and made the Matrix Stone to control them. Much like the Infinity Stones, the Celestials had their own powerful cosmic gems.

The Celestials are among the oldest beings in the Marvel Universe, as they were directly involved in creating the current reality. Over one million years ago, the Celestials created the Eternals to gather information about Earth, provide protection, protect the Great Machine, and to correct excess deviation. However, after a million years, the Celestials left the Eternals, leaving the race to find meaning without the God-like beings to give them purpose and direction. In the present day, the Celestials still show up from time to time, with the Avengers even making the corpse of one of them their home base.

In Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads #4 by Peter David, Greg Land, Jay Leisten, Frank D’Armata, and VC’s Joe Sabino, both Spider-Man and the Hulk (transformed by the Norn Stone) adventures in the Crossroad Dimension sends them to the base of the Deviants. Aboard the ship, Kro tells the Hulk the Eternals are coming after them because they want the Norn Stone embedded in the Hulk. When the transformed Jade Giant asks why it’s so desired, Kro explains the secret history of the stone. Kro reveals when the universe was created, the Celestials created gems (the Norn Stones) to traverses across dimensions to check in on the existence of other beings. In doing so, they also made the Matrix Stone, which controlled the Norn Stones.

Unfortunately, with both the Eternals, Deviants, and Karnilla all wanting to acquire the Matrix Stone that’s merged with the Hulk, the hero eventually loses it to the Queen of Norns. It leads Spider-Man, Ikaris, and the Hulk to the realm of Karnilla, where the hero’s face off against the Matrix Stone-wielding villain.

While Symbiote Spider-Man: Crossroads is essentially a “What If?” story about the web-slinger keeping his symbiote costume, it’s still amazing to see the Celestials create their own version of the Infinity Stones. Canon or not, the Celestials making the Matrix Stone and Norn Stones shows the incredible power they wielded. They could make pretty much anything they desired. Since the Matrix Stone (and Norn Stones) could be as powerful as an Infinity Stone, the Marvel heroes will be in a tough spot to stop Karnilla from using the Celestial-created gems for her own gain.
