In a special preview for Spider-Man: Life Story Annual #1, J. Jonah Jameson’s hatred for Spider-Man reaches disturbing levels. The Daily Bugle publisher has always had it in for the Wall-Crawler, but the anger he shows here is above and beyond. The issue will be on sale in print and digital August 25.
Ever since Spider-Man burst onto the scene, J. Jonah Jameson has waged a one-man war against him, with scathing editorials in the Daily Bugle as his primary weapon. Jameson will never resist an opportunity to drag Spider-Man’s name through the mud, calling him a “menace” and a “threat.” Jameson almost seems to reserve this treatment for Spider-Man alone, as he has rarely attacked other heroes with the same viciousness. Yet through it all, Jameson has never called for Spider-Man’s death, and at times the publisher has had to begrudgingly ask the Wall-Crawler for help. However, what if Jameson was to take this feud a step further? What if Jameson let his hatred of Spider-Man go unchecked? The preview for Spider-Man Life Story Annual #1 gives readers a taste of what this might look like. The issue is written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by legendary Spider-Man illustrator Mark Bagley, inks by Andrew Hennessy, colors by Matt Milla, and letters by Travis Lanham.
Throughout the preview, Jameson reflects on his crusade against Spider-Man over the ages. He thinks back to his hand in Spider-Man’s first fight against the Scorpion and Jameson realizes he has blood on his hands from the encounter, but he still doubles down on his hatred of Spider-Man. The preview concludes with the Scorpion attacking the Daily Bugle’s offices. Spider-Man comes to the rescue, but as Jameson watches the fight, he realizes what it is he hates about Spider-Man: the quips, the superiority, and the power. Jameson’s face is one of pure anger, taking on a disturbing quality. Have a look at the preview pages:
