MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

The MCU is known for its humor, particularly when it comes to sly quips and insults exchanged from character to character. It seems as though, even in times of sore distress, Marvel’s characters can’t help but crack wise about each other.

Marvel has racked up quite a bounty of hilarious insults in its long tenure as the leading movie franchise of this day and age, but some are simply on another level of hilarity, deserving just a bit more special attention.

Thor’s New Look

Rocket: “You Look Like Melted Ice Cream.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Rocket Raccoon is as sarcastic as they come, somehow managing to be the smartest mouth of a ship full of heroes known for their irreverence. His mean-spirited humor often causes him to be at odds with others, who usually don’t find his jokes as funny as he seems to. Despite his signature rudeness, Rocket is still among the best animal sidekicks in the MCU.

When Rocket and Hulk travel to New Asgard in Avengers: Endgame, they, alongside the audience, witness Thor’s physical transformation for the very first time. Upon realizing that the mighty god of thunder had really let himself go, Rocket can’t help but comment that he looks like a melted puddle of ice cream, a remark that goes completely ignored by his compatriots.

True Power

Loki: “An Ant Has No Quarrel With A Boot.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Thor may have gotten the brawn, but his adoptive brother certainly developed the wit to match. Loki’s title as the god of mischief serves him well in his endeavors, as he spends much of his screentime in the MCU plotting his tricks and schemes, the most infamous of which included his attempt to take over Earth in The Avengers.

Nick Fury became Earth’s first line of defense against Loki’s machinations, claiming that his world had no quarrel with the Asgardians. Loki dryly remarks in his own special way that such a quarrel would be akin to an insect picking a fight with the boot of someone who was about to smash them. This line quickly causes Fury to realize just how dangerous this new threat would be.

Older Men

Natasha: “Hey Fellas. Either One Of You Know Where The Smithsonian Is? I’m Here To Pick Up A Fossil.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Natasha Romanov presents herself as a steely, unattached woman with a fighting spirit. Deep down, however, the Black Widow cares very deeply for her friends, becoming, in more ways than one, the very soul of the Avengers.

One Avenger with whom Natasha is particularly close is Steve Rogers, whom she spends a considerable amount of time fighting alongside in The Winter Soldier. However, her dear friend does not escape her wrath, becoming the target of an “old man” joke in Natasha’s very first line in the film. Nevertheless, it is clear that her jibes come from a place of affection for the man out of time.

Shakespeare In The Park

Tony: “Doth Mother Know You Weareth Her Drapes?”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Tony Stark’s bravery is matched only by his uncanny ability to never be caught speechless. The Invincible Iron Man has an unhealthy need to get the last word in every exchange he ever has, making it difficult for the other Avengers to warm to his irritable personality.

Despite being, for all intents and purposes, a regular man, Tony Stark seems completely and totally unfazed by the existence of otherworldly beings. Upon meeting two Norse gods in one evening, Tony doesn’t question the limits of reality as many others would, but instead decides to openly mock one of them in the midst of battle–a decision that very quickly leads to an all-out brawl.

It Isn’t The Size…

Thor: “You People Are So Petty… And Tiny.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Thor, prince of Asgard, son of Odin, and god of thunder can often seem out of place in a room filled with Earthlings. This was never more true than in the first Avengers film, as the Norse god was still adjusting to human culture and sensibilities.

It is no secret that the original lineup of the Avengers didn’t exactly get along at first, and while Thor was not usually a part of the more heated arguments, he did seem to enjoy spectating. Whilst Tony and Steve debated each other’s merits as heroes, Thor smugly comments on humanity’s moral faults, throwing in a jab at their size for good measure.

Poser

Yelena: “You’re Such A Poser.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Yelena Belova is one of the newest additions to the MCU, making her first appearance in Black Widow. She quickly struck a chord with fans, who admired her fighting skills and bravery. Despite being a fierce fighter, Yelena is also supremely funny, making her a perfect candidate for a new Avengers team member.

One of Black Widow’s best running gags is Yelena’s disgust at Natasha’s signature fighting pose, which she pokes fun at by calling her surrogate sister a “poser.” In the end, Yelena can’t resist but try out the pose herself, resulting in immense self-disgust.

The Famous Pepper Potts

Pepper: “I Do Anything And Everything Mr. Stark Requires. Including Occasionally Taking Out The Trash.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Pepper Potts may have a supporting role in the MCU, but she is still a vital character in the sprawling film universe. Her patient support of Tony Stark throughout his many exploits kept him tied to the ground, giving him something to fight for.

Pepper’s most savage moment over the course of her seven film appearances comes in her very first scene, as she greets Christine Everhart (Leslie Bibb) after her one-night stand with Stark. When Everhart is somewhat rude in meeting her, Pepper insults the woman in the most polite yet scathing way possible, perfectly establishing her character as someone not to be messed with.

Words of Wisdom

Drax: “You Just Need To Find A Woman Who Is Pathetic, Like You.”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

Despite his intimidating name, Drax the Destroyer is actually one of the funniest characters in the MCU. His completely literal mindset and vocabulary are often the highlights of whatever scenes he may be in, especially because they grant him an unparalleled proclivity for brutal honesty.

When Drax learns of Peter Quill’s romantic interest in Gamora, which seems to be unrequited at the time, he does his best to console his friend by reminding him of how different the two really are. Though he is not trying to be mean, Drax’s comments come off as less-than-comforting, doing more to insult Peter than console him.

Performance Issues

Tony: “Well, Performance Issues, It’s Not Uncommon. One Out Of Five…”

MCU The 10 Best & Funniest Insults

During one of Loki’s more villainous stints, the Avengers were formed to fight him and his armies off of their planet. Just before the third act final battle, Tony is sent to the top of his own tower, which Loki had commandeered, to retrieve his latest suit, leading to an unforgettable scene between the two iconic characters.

The MCU’s King of Quips has one of his very best lines during this intense scene, as Loki realizes for the first time that the hero cannot fall under the spell of the Mind Stone. As Loki looks at him in confusion, Tony seizes the opportunity to make a joke about impotence, adding insult to injury.

Hulk Smash

Hulk: “Puny God.”

The Hulk may not be the most well-expressed member of the Avengers, preferring to talk with his fists. Nevertheless, everyone should know better than to engage in verbal sparring with the behemoth, as he is more likely to get the upper hand than allow himself to be insulted.

In one of the most iconic and quotable scenes from The Avengers, Loki attempts to declare his supremacy over the Avengers and their planet, only for the Hulk to “smash” the Asgardian into the ground, leaving him behind after dropping a memorable one-liner.
