Ahh, the old Minecraft tradition of salvaging. You remember taking all that old and enchanted gear and salvaging it before it broke? Wait, nevermind. While there were some unique tricks to save gear that was about to break, salvaging is an all-new feature to Minecraft Dungeons. Additionally, enchanting — which was a critical function in Minecraft — returns in a big way for Minecraft Dungeons.

As players jump into the game, they may not realize what salvaging is. They are, however, introduced to using enchantments as they level up — but they must apply the enchantment to a piece of gear. This is where players might get nervous. Do they have to hold on to these early weapons in order to save these valuable enchantments? Is there a way to get the enchantments back?

Fortunately, in the video below, we can see that this process is actually pretty straightforward. Any item that is picked up while playing Minecraft Dungeons is carried in the player’s inventory. When you click on an item, the right third of the screen expands to provide more information about the item in question. Right above the area where it details the weapons power, speed, or area, there is a white button titled Salvage.

When clicked, the Salvage button provides new details, titled Salvage Payback. Here, the player will see how many enchantment points they will get back, as well as the emeralds that will be awarded for the salvaging. Once salvaged, the emeralds and the enchantments return to the top left of the inventory screen which can then be re-applied where the player deems important.

Consequently, this applies to all armor, weapons, or any other gear that may be picked up along the way. Worried that you spent six enchantment points to upgrade a certain item? No problem, players seem to get them back at a one for one ratio, no questions asked. These are now free for you to invest in upgrading your newly acquired gear, and there doesn’t seem to be a penalty for the transaction other than the complete destruction of the item. That’s actually a fairly steep price to pay, so if considering salvaging a high-value item, perhaps check around to ensure you aren’t deleting one of the best unique items in the game.
