Dripleaf Natural Generation
Dripleaves can be found naturally growing in lush caves. This is an underground biome that will spawn at any level. Overall, the biome is not too rare, which means that after mining for a bit, you should be able to find it. Within lush caves, you can find both dripleaf variations, which we will go over later.
Trading For Dripleaves
Small dripleaves can also be purchased from the Wandering Trader. This is a merchant who will appear in the world, offering goods in exchange for emeralds. A Wandering Trader is not guaranteed to have small dripleaves, however, if they are available, you can buy two for one emerald.
Dripleaf Variations
There are two dripleaf variations; small and big. Let’s take a look at both of these variations below.
Small Dripleaf
Small dripleaves are essentially baby dripleaves that will grow into a larger variation when bone meal is applied. Doing so will cause the small dripleaf to grow into a larger one, ranging from two to five blocks tall. You can place small dripleaves on the following blocks.

Big Dripleaf
Big dripleaves are the grown version of the small dripleaf. This plant works as a platform; players and objects will be supported by the dripleaf for one second, before the leaf tilts and drops the player or item below. You can place big dripleaves on the following blocks.
- Farmland
- Grass
- Rooted Dirt
- Moss
- Mycelium
- Podzol
When placed, big dripleaves will be one block tall, but you can increase this up to five blocks by using bone meal.
Placing Dripleaves Underwater
Both variations of dripleaf can be placed underwater on the following surfaces.
- Farmland
- Grass
- Rooted Dirt
- Moss
- Mycelium
- Podzol
Dripleaves function the same when underwater – if any entity is on top, the leaf will collapse after one second.
How To Harvest Dripleaves
Small dripleaves need to be harvested with shears. If you use any other tool, the small dripleaf will break, and you will not be able to collect it. Big dripleaves can be harvested with any tool, regardless of type or enchantments. Dripleaves can be up to five blocks tall, but if you break it at any point on the stem, the entire plant will fall, allowing you to collect it. Dripleaves will instantly collapse if a projectile, such as an arrow or snowball is thrown.
What To Do With Dripleaves
Lastly, let’s take a look at what you can do with dripleaves. With a redstone connection, dripleaves will not collapse when stood upon. If a projectile is fired at the dripleaf, it will collapse regardless if there is a redstone connection or not. Keeping this in mind, you can build dripleaf obstacle courses or variations of Spleef.
Spleef is a competitive game where players destroy blocks around others while trying to not fall down. Playing with dripleaves will create an unstable field, while players try to be the last one standing.
