After a troubled production, made significantly more difficult by the ongoing pandemic, Mission: Impossible 7 looks like it’s finally back on track. The Tom Cruise-led vehicle, which follows in the footsteps of 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, is set to be released in 2022 following significant delays and development issues. However, thanks to the continued critical and commercial success of the Mission: Impossible franchise, anticipation around the sequel remains incredibly high.

Like previous installments of the franchise, the film is set to star the ever-present Cruise as IMF superspy Ethan Hunt. Due to the secrecy around the production, little is known about the Mission: Impossible 7 plot. However, it’s possible to glean a few clues from the previous film in the franchise. Given the plot of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, it seems likely that the new movie will mark a turning point for the series, since Ethan Hunt and co were able to successfully thwart Sean Harris’ Soloman Lane in their previous outing. It’s also known that actor Esai Morales will star as an as yet unknown villain, again hinting at a new story arc.

Mission Impossible 7 Production Controversy Explained

This follows several previous release dates of July 23, 2021, November 19, 2022, and May 27, 2022. In addition, the film will be made available on streaming service Paramount+ 45 days after its theatrical release.
