The New York Yankees are currently in 4th place in the AL East and this article’s player ratings are a reflection of their performance through over half of the 2021 season.
12 Jameson Taillon, SP (82)
In addition to having an incredible name, Jameson Taillon’s life hasn’t been run of the mill, either. Back in 2017, he had surgery for testicular cancer and somehow starting in an MLB game 3 weeks later. Early in 2021, he was acquired by the New York Yankees as they sent several prospects to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Taillon’s services. His 82 overall in MLB The Show 21 is a reflection of his stats so far this season which has him at a record of 8-6, with an ERA of 4.41.
11 Corey Kluber, SP (82)
A new member of the New York Yankees for the 2021 season is former Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers starting pitcher, Corey Kluber. An overall of 86 in MLB The Show 21 may seem slightly above average but it’s good enough to make Kluber the 3rd best pitcher on arguably the MLB’s most popular team.
At age 35, Kluber is entering the final years of his career, and he’s hoping to leave a mark with the Yankees and bring a title to the city. His 2021 season is off to an okay start as it sees Kluber with a 2-2 record and an ERA sitting right above 3 at 3.06.
10 Gleyber Torres, SS (82)
With an aging roster, Gleyber Torres happens to be the emerging young star for the New York Yankees. The 24-year-old shortstop from Venezuela already has two MLB All-Star appearances under his belt and is looking to be an important piece to the Yankees’ long-term plans.
His 85 overall in MLB The Show 21 is just the start of where he can end up in the coming years. He’ll need to sharpen up his fielding performance, though, as 2020 saw him lead all shortstops in errors. If Torres can clean that up he’ll likely have a long career in the majors.
9 Luis Severino, SP (83)

He hasn’t appeared in a game for the New York Yankees in 2 years, but there’s some hope that he returns to the mound at some point in the future. Relief pitchers in the MLB are similar to kickers in the NFL in that most fans overlook them until they enter the game and royally screw things up. Chad Green is a relief pitcher for the New York Yankees, who despite an overall of 85 in MLB The Show 21, is off to a horrendous start to the 2021 season.
He’s currently winless and sports a record of 0-3, which only bolsters the reasoning as to why the Yankees are barely above .500 when it comes to their record. If Green’s season doesn’t turn around expect this overall to drop out of the Top 10 overall on the Yankees roster.
7 Gio Urshela, 3B (85)
Gio Urshela is a role player in many ways and isn’t the type of player likely to win any awards or be a kid’s favorite player. He comes in and tries to do his job, so fans who look at the New York Yankees may be surprised to see he has an overall of 85 in MLB The Show 21.
The truth is he’s a solid baseball player and currently has the second-best batting average on the entire roster, sitting only behind superstar Giancarlo Stanton. He’s one of the Yankees’ most consistent and reliable hitters, and at 29 is one of their younger starters on the roster.
6 Luke Voit, 1B (86)
Luke Voit as of this writing is on the injury list for the New York Yankees as he tore his meniscus in one of his knees in late March of 2021, requiring surgery. It’s a bummer for an emerging 1st baseman who is coming off of a season in 2020 that saw the Missouri product lead the MLB in home runs with 22.
His 86 overall in MLB The Show 21 is a reward for accomplishing this feat in a weird and shortened season, so it’s a bummer for the sport that he’ll miss extended time due to an unfortunate injury he suffered at the beginning of the season.
5 Aroldis Chapman, CP (87)
Aroldis Chapman is currently on his second stint with the New York Yankees, and his 2021 season is off to a hot start. The 87 overall starting pitcher is currently 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00 and is looking to prove why he’s the second-highest overall in the Yankees pitching ranks.
Most of the time, nicknames are reserved for the game’s best players, and thanks to Chapman’s velocity as a pitcher, he’s been given the nickname of the “Cuban Missile” since making his mark in the MLB as a member of the Cincinnati Reds from 2010 to 2015.

He may be one of the older players on the list, but 2nd baseman D.J. LeMahieu is the third-highest overall on the New York Yankees in MLB The Show 21. The 32-year-old’s 93 overall is a reflection of him having solid seasons in both 2019 and 2020.
In those two seasons, LeMahieu managed to land two Silver Slugger awards, made the All-MLB First Team twice, and was both an All-Star and batting champion once. He may not be the name that Giancarlo Stanton or Aaron Judge is nationally, but the kid from Visalia, California has put together quite the career.

Aaron Judge is a name most fans of baseball know, as the larger-than-life right fielder for the New York Yankees has blossomed into one of the MLB’s biggest stars with an overall of 97 in MLB The Show 21. That’s true when looking at Judge physically as well as he stands at 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 282 pounds.
He’s a powerful batter who has managed to win a Silver Slugger award and was named the American League home run leader following the conclusion of the 2017 season. After battling injuries the last few seasons fans are hoping he returns to form in 2021.
