“Part 5” of Money Heist is still making headlines after premiering on Netflix on September 3rd. In it, even bigger battles between the hostages and the robbers have played out. Sadly, fans will have to wait until December 3rd for the second part of the season, and the conclusion of the highly popular Spanish series as a whole.

On the show, The Professor and his band of robbers deserve plenty of praise for their courage. It takes a lot of nerve to pull of heists in two of the most guarded government buildings. However, they aren’t the only brave ones. Some of the popular hostages on the show have also distinguished themselves for their gallantry.

10 Fransisco Torres

Torres is put in charge of printing counterfeit banknotes by Nairobi and he does it so well that he earns himself the title of “Hostage of The Year.” This is after he prints a whopping €311 million in 40 hours. He even suggests better ways to increase production.

While Torres’ productivity cannot be put into doubt, his guts cannot be traced. The only reason he is extremely cooperative is that he fears for his life. His fear even makes him threaten to snitch on Arturo for hiding a cache of weapons under his desk. Nevertheless, he gets likability points for loving peace and being extremely good at his job.

9 Mercedes Colmenar

The high school teacher takes her students on an excursion to the Royal Mint of Spain but things turn chaotic. She is then taken as a hostage together with her students.

Mercedes exhibits both timidness and courage. Whenever the robbers are talking, she has worry written all over her face and she screams when threatened too. A switch in personality is seen on a few occasions, like when she demands to see and know how one of her students is doing. She also appears to buy into some of Arturo’s ideas of a rebellion.

8 Miguel

The intern at the Operations and Information Systems department at the Bank of Spain is considered too weak for labor so he is made to sit with the rest. He then tries to discourage the rest of the hostages from doing as told.

Miguel is naturally not one to take risks. His bursts of bravery are mostly meant to impress Amanda who he has a crush on. When he warns fellow hostages not to wear the bulletproof guests they are given, it isn’t because he is keen on revolting. He only fears that he and the rest will be used as human shields hence they will likely die.

7 Pablo Ruiz

Pablo is one of the students that gets taken as a hostage during the school excursion to the Royal Mint of Spain. While inside the building, he helps Arturo initiate his escape plan. Choosing Pablo to be part of the team that digs the tunnel turns out to be a mistake since he starts scheming with Arturo.

Being a young student against a group of intimidating robbers doesn’t deter Pablo from trying to outsmart them. He hides tools in the toilet which are later used by some of the hostages to escape. And as a free person, he is more than glad to tell the police everything even though he is risking his life by doing that.

6 Ariadna Cascales

Ariadna quickly figures out a way to survive by seducing Berlin, outsmarting a brilliant character. Their pairing isn’t one of the best storylines in Money Heist but it works in Ariadna’s favor.

Though Ariadna’s body language paints her as cowardly, her strategies declare otherwise. It’s audacious of her to not only seduce Berlin but also confess that she wants to stay with him so that she gets to spend some of the heist money before leaving him. Her dream doesn’t unravel the way she pictures it since Berlin dies but she ends up alive and unscathed when it’s all over.

5 Mario Urbaneja

The governor at the Bank of Spain gets targeted before the heist because he is the only one that can open the vault containing government secrets. He sits tight with the rest of the hostages before later participating in a revolt.

Urbaneja isn’t scared of anyone either and this is clear from how he resists orders to open the vault. His disobedience earns him a brutal beating by Denver but that doesn’t bother him one bit. And instead of playing nice and wait for help, Urbenaja decides to team up with Arturo and storm the loading dock where the guns are stashed. However, he appears to be more reserved than Arturo when it comes to engaging in gunfire. This mostly points to his unfamiliarity with weapons rather than lack of courage.

4 Jacinto

Jacinto gets tied up in the basement during the first heist because he is considered dangerous. The robbers are right to be scared about him since he manages to knock Oslo out before escaping and telling the police what he remembers.

While most hostages on the show prefer not to trigger the ire of the robbers by doing anything risky. Jacinto demonstrates his valor by sneaking to the toilet to retrieve the tools Pablo Ruiz has hidden. Knocking Oslo out is an even bolder move since the robber is not only huge but also a war veteran who fought in the Balkan Wars.

3 Monica, aka, Stockholm

Monica’s character development sees her morph from hostage to robber znd love is a big catalyst in that decision. The former secretary first has an affair with Arturo that leads to a baby before falling for Denver and building one of the best relationships on Money Heist.

Throwing away a lucrative white-collar career in order to become part of a heist team is a decision only fear would have the nerve to make. As a secretary, there is a guarantee of peace and longevity, but as a robber, there is no guarantee Monica will live to see the next day. And even before joining The Professor’s team, Monica makes precarious decisions such as hiding a phone and swapping Denver’s gun with a fake one.

2 Cesar Gandia

The former Head of Security doesn’t resist the urge to escape when the opportunity presents itself. He frees himself from his handcuffs before unleashing a reign of terror on the robbers. His actions result in one of the saddest character deaths on the show.

That he is in charge of the security team of the country’s biggest financial institution in the country is a confirmation of Gandia’s bravery. Gandia is also a former special ops soldier and it sure does take a lot of guts to venture into such risky professions. Within a short span of time, he manages to strangle Helsinki, capture Tokyo and kill Nairobi. His bravery also becomes apparent when he risks his life to save Ubernaja at the start of the second heist.

1 Arturo Roman

Being a hostage once is traumatizing enough for most people but the former Royal Mint of Spain manager decided to become one once again by his own choosing during the second heist at the Bank Of Spain. He might not be one of the smartest characters on Money Heist but Arturo is the bravest.

Nothing that The Professor’s team does scares Arturo. Even when they wrap his body with explosives, he convinced himself and other hostages that they are fake. Arturo’s willingness to engage in gunfights with the robbers even though he has no weapons is a testament to his courage. In Part 5, he even confronts them all by himself a couple of times using flamethrowers and machine guns. And while injuries deter people from putting themselves in danger anymore Arturo keeps seeking out the robbers despite getting shot twice.
