It appears Monolith Soft is still hiring for a Legend of Zelda title. Back in March, the developer was seeking technical artists, designers, programmers, and support staff relating to an upcoming Zelda project. At the time, Breath of the Wild’s sequel was not announced. That announcement came three months later in June, so many are assuming Monolith is working on it. This is reasonable, because Monolith had a hand in Breath of the Wild’s development.

The Legend of Zelda has always been popular, but it’s thanks to 2017’s Breath of the Wild that the series has soared to new heights. Some months back, the game became the greatest-selling Zelda title in the United States, surpassing Twilight Princess. Since then, only one Zelda title has been released: the Link’s Awakening remake on Switch. Link’s Awakening has been very well received, reminding everyone that Zelda works in both grand-scale adventures, and the smaller overhead ones. With that said, fans are gearing up for Breath of the Wild’s sequel. If Monolith is indeed working on it, fans should be in for another treat.

Over at Monolith Soft’s recruitment page, the company is hiring for a Legend of Zelda project. According to a translation (via Japanese Nintendo), Monolith is still looking for “Technical Artists, Programmers, Planners, Designers, and Management Support.” Monolith has not confirmed it’s working specifically on Breath of the Wild’s sequel, but given the timing of everything, it’s likely to be the case.

It’s hard to say what this means for Breath of the Wild 2’s release. If Monolith is still hiring, it might mean people are being brought in to speed things along, or the game is still early in development. It’s also not known if these positions have been vacant since March, or more people are being asked to join. Fans are holding out hope for a holiday 2020 release, but that may simply be too soon for release. Meanwhile, Monolith is also working on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for Switch.

Few Nintendo titles are as anticipated as Breath of the Wild’s sequel. After the mysterious trailer, fans have been discussing and speculating. Interestingly, Breath of the Wild’s sequel was born from having too many DLC ideas for its predecessor. Hopefully it won’t be too long before Nintendo announces more news on this title.
