My Hero Academia 5 Pokémon Fumikage Tokoyami Could Defeat (& 5 He Would Lose To)

Fumikage Tokoyami is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School in the My Hero Academia series. He is one of the stronger characters in the class having a quirk so powerful it can even break his control. However, he can only use this quirk to full effect in the dark. The quirk is known as Dark Shadow creating a shadow-like figure able to move and talk on its own. The more powerful Dark Shadow gets the harder it is to control.

In the Pokémon world, Tokoyami would be a Dark- and Flying-type, similar to Murkrow and Honchkrow, that’s able to use a plethora of Dark and Flying moves, as well as Ghost-type moves with Dark Shadow. This would make him strong against Grass-, Psychic-, and Ghost-types, but weak to Electric-, Ice-, Rock-, and Fairy-types. To create fair fights, this list will avoid Legendary Pokémon.

10 Defeat: Gengar

Kicking off the list is one of the more popular fan-favorite Pokémon, Gengar. Gengar is a Ghost- and Poison-type Pokémon that relies on ranged special attacks. Shadow ball is one of Gengar’s moves that it heavily relies on, and with Tokoyami being a Dark-type, he would resist this attack.

Since Ghost moves are super effective against other Ghost-type Pokémon, Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow would be able to do a lot of damage to Gengar.

9 Lose: Tyranitar

Sometimes, you run into an enemy you just can’t defeat no matter what you do. In Pokémon, this is known as a hard counter. Tyranitar would be a hard counter to Tokoyami as there isn’t much he would be able to do. Tyranitar is a Rock- and Dark-type, meaning he would resist Tokoyami’s Dark, Flying, and Ghost moves.

In return, Tyranitar’s Stone Edge would inflict super-effective damage back. Also, Tyranitar’s ability is Sand Stream, which causes a sandstorm when he’s sent out. This would cause a lot of trouble for Tokoyami if he tried to use flight to his advantage.

8 Defeat: Dhelmise

Dhelmise is a Ghost- and Grass-type Pokémon that uses Steel-type moves due to its ability, Steelworker. Since Ghost and Grass are both resisted by Tokoyami, Dhelmise’s Anchor Shot would be the best option.

Just having one move wouldn’t be enough to take down Tokoyami as his Dark, Flying, and Ghost moves would get the job done easily. Dhelmise is also a very slow Pokémon proving to be no match for Tokoyami and Dark Shadow.

7 Lose: Gardevoir

Gardevoir is a Psychic- and Fairy-type Pokémon meaning Tokoyami would be immune to its Psychic attacks. However, Gardevoir is known for using Moonblast, a Fairy-type move causing double the trouble for Tokoyami.

Not only is it super-effective against him, but channeling the power of the moon would create a lot of light. Gardevoir also uses Mystical Fire causing the same problem. With two moves able to render Dark Shadow useless, this wouldn’t be a battle Tokoyami wins.

6 Defeat: Orbeetle

Orbeetle is a Bug- and Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII of Pokémon. Generation VIII also brought us the introduction of Gigantamax Pokémon. Gigantamax Orbeetle has a Gigantamax move called G-Max Gravitas, which increases the Gravity of the surrounding area.

This would weaken Tokoyami by negating his ability to fly. Unfortunately for Orbeetle, it wouldn’t get rid of his Flying-type moves which he could still use against it. Orbeetle’s Bug and Psychic moves would be resisted, leading to a close victory for Tokoyami.

5 Lose: Weavile

Weavile is a Dark- and Ice-type Pokémon against which Tokoyami would have an even match up. Weavile’s Ice-type moves are super effective against Tokoyami but its Weavile’s speed stat that would give Tokoyami trouble.

In season two, episode eleven of My Hero Academia, Tokoyami faces off in a battle against Katsuki Bakugo. Tokoyami couldn’t keep up with the speed of Bakugo showing he struggles against fast opponents. With a speed stat of 125, Weavile is much too fast for Tokoyami to handle.

4 Defeat: Gourgeist

Gourgeist is a Ghost- and Grass-type Pokémon that comes in different sizes: large, small, and super. However, none of these sizes would put up much of a fight to Tokoyami.

Gourgeist has underwhelming stats with its only good stat being defense. If Gourgeist can survive out attacks from Tokoyami it might be able to sneak a victory with Destiny Bond.

3 Lose: Grimmsnarl

As stated earlier in Orbeetle’s entry, Gigantamax was added in Generation VIII of Pokémon. Grimmsnarl also has a Gigantamax form, but this would prove more trouble than Orbeetle. Grimmsnarl is a Dark- and Fairy-type Pokémon.

Grimmsnarl’s G-max Snooze has a chance to put Tokoyami to sleep. If it hits, there’s going to be a flurry of fairy type moves to follow up.

2 Defeat: Espeon

The Eeveelutions are a favorite among Pokémon fans so one of them had to make this list. Espeon would be the Eeveelution that Tokoyami has the easiest time against. Espeon is a pure Psychic-type meaning Tokoyami is immune to its psychic type moves.

For coverage of Dark-types, Espeon has Signal Beam, but with Tokoyami also being Flying-type he nullifies the super effective bonus. In return, his Dark-type moves would be super-effective against Espeon.

1 Lose: Honchkrow

Rounding out the list is the boss Dark- and Flying-type Pokémon, Honchkrow. Known as Summoner of Night, Honchkrow can bring in reinforcements at will.

Using its cry, Murkrow, the pre-evolution of Honchkrow, flock to the scene. Honchkrow are more active during the night and would have no problem with the dark Tokoyami needs for Dark Shadow.
