Newly registered trademarks for the Pokémon Trading Card Game hint at possible new card sets related to the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia. This information comes only a couple months ahead of the release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on Nintendo Switch, remakes of the Gen 3 Legendaries’ debut.

Pokémon cards have been rapidly growing in value in 2021. Some stores like Target were forced to pull Pokémon cards from its shelves temporarily to stop scalpers stealing them from stores. However, scalpers continue to tear apart Pokémon Trading Card Game packs at stores, thwarting several retailers’ purchase limits. The problem doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon, but that won’t stop new cards from being released this year, as shown with the recent release of the Evolving Skies expansion.

New trademarks could mean that another Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion centering around Dialga and Palkia could be released in the near future. PokéBeach reports that Japanese trademarks for “Time Gazer” and “Space Juggler” have been registered under the same terms as other trademarks for the Pokémon TCG. PokéBeach also notes that trademarks are usually discovered five to six months before they’re used in released material. While this could mean a potential Pokémon card game expansion is on the way, it probably wouldn’t release until sometime in spring 2022.

There are rumors that new Dialga and Palkia forms will be included in the upcoming Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, spurred by fan theories about the games’ Nintendo Switch box art of and unrevealed pre-order bonus Dialga and Palkia figurines. Rumors like these should be approached with caution, of course, as there have been plenty of occasions where supposed leaks never came to fruition. However, there are at least some factors that suggest the new Legendary forms could be real.

If new forms for the time and space Pokémon do come to pass, it would make sense if they make their way to Pokémon TCG expansion. They would fit very well as mascots for a potential Time Gazer and Space Juggler expansion for obvious reasons. With Dialga and Palkia’s recognizability at a new high and the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes on the immediate horizon, it’s possible that the pair could star in a new Pokémon card set worth a lot of money to scalpers and collectors.
