If you were hoping to play Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 or Xbox One, maybe… don’t.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out and looks phenomenal–provided you have a PC beefy enough to run it at max settings. Our review was on a machine lucky enough to be powered by the new Nvidia RTX 3090 and the latest Intel processor, and it looks pretty damned good, according to our very own Kirk McKeand. But things aren’t looking so great if we look at the lower end of the Cyberpunk 2077 platforms.

On the original PS4 and Xbox One, Cyberpunk 2077 plays absolutely abysmally, with low framerate, obvious texture pop-in, and serious hitches during gameplay. Eurogamer partnered with Digital Foundry for some preliminary analysis and found that Cyberpunk can drop to as few as 15fps during certain parts of the game, usually in the big city with lots of NPCs milling about.

“While some indoor battles run well at 30fps, they can drop to 25fps,” Eurogamer noted. “Framerate drops are one thing, but there’s also hitching – big hiccups in the action where a new object or texture needs to load in. This can make it a challenge to shoot or drive.”

Worse, the game just looks bad. And by bad, we mean so low-rez that it appears almost blurry. Cyberpunk’s dynamic resolution means that it will drop to below 1080p in order to retain its framerate, but that can be anywhere from 720p to 900p resolutions.

Take a look at the video below to see the PS4 version of the game against Cyberpunk 2077 running on a PS4 Pro. As you can see, both look washed out, but the PS4 is way worse.

The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X seem to have the guts to run Cyberpunk 2077 at anywhere approaching acceptable graphics, but it’s still a big step down from the PC version. And even on the PS4 Pro, things can be a little bit… weird.

Also, the Internet has caught wind of Cyberpunk’s troubles on last-gen consoles, and it has naturally resulted in memes. Enjoy.
