Morgana’s final form may have come as a surprise to many fans playing Persona 5 Royal – but did you know his final transformation was teased in the opening of the game?

Persona 5’s Morgana is one multi-faceted being. He has many different forms, from his anthropomorphic cat-like creature when fighting the in the Metaverse, his “Cargana” form that can be seen most frequently in Mementos, his normal cat body in the real world, and even his human form in Maruki’s alternate reality.

But in the final moments of the Phantom Thieves final infiltration of Maruki’s palace Royal’s third semester, Atlus gave fans another alternate Morgana form; and this time, it’s one that has the power to fly.

That’s right – I’m referring to Morgana’s helicopter form.

In his helicopter form, Morgana retains the look of a black helicopter, with blue lights that look like his eyes, vents that resemble his triangle-shaped cat ears, and a yellow stripe that parallels his scarf.

While Morgana’s helicopter transformation may have come as a surprise to players, Atlus actually blatantly teased the form in the new opening sequence of the game.

Around the 20 second mark of Royal’s new opening, the Thieves begin passing around a briefcase that later turns into a heart, resembling their actions of stealing palace owners’ treasures. The briefcase begins in Morgana’s hands, then gets transferred to Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke. After that point, it turns into a pink heart, which gets thrown to Makoto, Haru, Futaba, and finally, Joker.

Joker catches the heart while swinging on a rope, which is later revealed to be attached to a flying black helicopter. Though the front of the helicopter isn’t visible, its black design could clearly be a reference to Morgana’s copter form.

Additionally, this mirrors Joker’s scene with helicopter-Morgana at the end of Maruki’s palace, when he can be seen holding onto a rope while Morgana attempts to fly away from the crumbling palace.

Between Maruki’s first appearance, Akechi’s pancakes line, and the hint about Kasumi’s backstory at the beginning of the game, looks like this is yet another thing for fans to keep an eye out for during their next New Game+ run of Royal!
