Quick Links
After the swift defeat of Nuwa, Shin Megami Tensi 5 finally decides to reveal its plot. This leads to your encounter with the big-bad of the next area – Lahmu. Lahmu is big, grotesque, and hell-bent on devouring his human counterpart to transcend demonhood. It’s down to you to stop him.
Thankfully, Lahmu is not at full power when you fight him. He is still a mere demon – a shell of his true self. Unfortunately, Lahmu is also a pushover. He lacks attacks, his stats are not exactly stellar, and he is more of a gimmick than a real threat.
You will fight Lahmu a second time later in the game, and he is much more powerful.
Lahmu’s Potentials, Attacks, and Resistances
Potentials
Lahmu’s potentials aren’t as eye-wateringly high as Nuwa’s, but he has a more rounded lineup with solid Dark and Status Potentials and decent Physical and Fire ones. Unfortunately, as you will soon discover, Lahmu doesn’t use his Potentials to his advantage (for the most part).
Attacks
Lahmu only has one attack, and that attack is not exactly great. Whilst Mudo has a chance to instantly kill a party member, that member has to be weak to the element for it to happen. This is easily countered – even if you don’t bring resistance.
Mudo is also the weakest form of Dark magic, and Lahmu doesn’t have a great Magic stat. If he isn’t instantly killing you, he isn’t doing much. Topping it all off is Mudo’s targeting limitations. It’s a single target spell, making it much cheaper (and easier) to heal than its AOE variant.
Lahmu is a bit of a wet noodle.
Resistances
Lahmu is understandably immune to Dark magic himself, as well as being resistant to fire. Like most Dark-based demons, Lahmu is susceptible to Light but is also weak to Force. This gives you plenty of attack options when it comes to building your team.
Recommended Party Setup
Because Lahmu has such a limited range of attacks, most demons will do fine in this fight – providing they aren’t weak to Dark. If you want to go in fully prepared, however, then you will want to bring along some Force or Light demons.
Andras
When it comes to early-game force Demons, Andras is your man…bird…thing. This is due to his access to Zanma, a very powerful force spell that can slap Lahmu around like no tomorrow.
His stats are decent too, as well as his Potentials. His only downside is his lack of Dark resistance. That being said, he is Dark neutral, so Lahmu can’t do much to him at all.
Legion
Legion is one of those demons you take for the utility, rather than the damage output. Legion is a Dark-focused caster with a light sprinkling of Physical damage. Legion won’t blow you away with his damage, or his abilities. What it will do, however, is give you a demon with complete immunity to Dark.
This means every time Lahmu tries to attack Legion, his turn immediately ends. This will speed up the fight considerably. To make Legion even more effective, try and transfer abilities like Taunt.
Rakshasa
Rakshasa has no access to Force or Light attacks. On the surface, this makes him seem a tad underwhelming since he isn’t generating bonus turns. Despite this drawback, he is one of the best demons to bring along for this fight.
Rakshasa is resistant to Dark, making him practically indestructible, and his Strength stat is through the roof. On top of that, he rocks great Physical Potentials and access to both Charge and Gram Slice.
Charge more than doubles the damage of your next Physical attack, and Gram Slice is a powerful Physical attack with a high chance of landing a Critical. These two things combined will likely turn Rakasha into the most damaging demon in your lineup. He’s also very easy to obtain.
Ame-No-Uzume
Ame-No-Uzume may be a beastly Electric caster at heart, but she is also a very potent Light user thanks to her innate access to Hama. Ame-No-Uzume even comes with a fantastic Magic stat, rocking Potentials in Light, and is Dark neutral, making her immune to Mudo’s instakill effect.
That last part is especially notable since most Light demons are weak to Dark magic.
Kikuri-Hime
Kikuri-Hime is a demon you might not have access to. Her level is a bit high, so if you’ve been skipping a lot of fights during your playthrough, she’s a no-go. That being said, if you can Fuse her, then she is stellar.
A monstrous Magic stat and great Force Potentials are the fuel for her coup-de-grace – Zanma. Like Andras, Kikuri-Hime has access to the significantly more powerful variant of Zan. Unlike Andras, Kikuri-Hime has the stats to make this attack sing.
Preparing For Battle
Essence Fusion
For this fight, it is almost mandatory to have unlocked the Divine Amalgamation Miracle from the World Of Shadows. This Miracle lets Nahobino change his Resistances, which is very handy for this fight since Nahobino is innately weak to Dark. If you don’t remove that Weakness, this fight could end instantly whenever he is targeted.
For attacks, you want Nahobino to bring the strongest Physical or Light/Force skills you have at your disposal (depending on build). If you are going Physical, then try and grab Charge to give you a noticeable boost in damage.
Max Magatsuhi
Going into any boss fight with a maxed Magatsuhi gauge is advised, but for Lahmu, it’s even better. Being able to burst Lahmu down quickly will let you move on to more interesting encounters since he can’t do much if you’ve come prepared.
Battle Strategy
Lahmu is a piece of cake. You could go in with practically any demon and punch him to death so long as Nahobino removes his weakness to Dark. If you go in prepared with a Lahmu kill team, then it’s a joke. Hit him hard, move on.
