Pokémon 10 Luckiest Moments Ranked

There are many moments in the Pokémon’s anime adaptation where the characters end up having lucky moments, such as having new Pokémon hatch in their hands or finding out that there are some Pokémon that want to travel by their side. Many matches were won by luck, from regular battles to serious Gym battles.

However, some moments are luckier than others, such as the Legendary Tapu Koko interfering in Ash and Kukui’s battle to confront Ash. Other lucky moments include mid-battle evolutions and unexpected victories. No matter what exactly happened, it helped change trainers’ luck who might be having a hard time beforehand or gave them some opportunities for heartwarming bonds and moments.

10 Tapu Koko Interferred In Ash & Kukui’s Battle To Fight Ash

Pokémon 10 Luckiest Moments Ranked

Initially, Ash and Kukui were supposed to finish their epic battle, but Tapu Koko’s interruption and battling Ash at the last minute was an event no one expected. Most Legendary Pokémon usually try to avoid being seen by humans, so Tapu Koko approaching Ash was a welcome surprise, even if it was unexpected.

Thankfully for viewers disappointed by the lack of outcome in Kukui and Ash’s match, Tapu Koko and Ash’s battle against each other was also just as epic and eventually resulted in Ash’s victory, making him worthy of being the Alola Champion.

The first movie had one of the luckiest moments in the franchise. Ash was petrified and implied to die, after running in the way of Mew and Mewtwo trying to attack each other. Pikachu tried to shock Ash to wake him up several times, only to realize that the efforts were fruitless.

As Pikachu burst into tears, so did all the rest of the original and clone Pokémon. Their tears, miraculously, brought Ash back to life, to their joy. It also helped Mewtwo realize that clone Pokémon were not necessarily superior to the originals.

Ash’s Riolu could have easily died when fighting Chairman Rose’s Pokémon on its own, even if it was trying to protect Ash and Pikachu at the time. However, instead of being crushed, it evolved into Lucario at the last minute and singlehandedly defeated Rose’s Pokémon.

Had Riolu not been so lucky, it could’ve been seriously injured if not killed. Many rejoiced to see Riolu evolving into Lucario, especially since it learned Aura Sphere during that same episode and helped in the fight against Eternatus.

Ash was nearly doomed when fighting Sabrina since she had advanced psychic powers on top of having a powerful Kadabra. This was worsened by Haunter seemingly forfeiting the match and vanishing when Ash tried getting it to help him.

However, Haunter reappeared shortly after and made Sabrina laugh. This also made Kadabra lose its composure and hand Ash the victory since Kadabra and Sabrina were telepathically linked to each other. This helped Ash free his friends from Sabrina’s grasp and also earn his badge from her.

5 May Became A Mother Figure To Two Legendary Pokémon

Pokémon 10 Luckiest Moments Ranked

May was extremely lucky to have the opportunity to be a mother figure to the Legendary Pokémon Jirachi and Manaphy in the films Jirachi: Wish Maker and Temple Of The Sea respectively. It is always a surprising moment to meet a Legendary Pokémon, but it is extremely rare to encounter Jirachi and Manaphy, let alone the former since it only appears every one-thousand years.

Even though May’s time with both Pokémon was restrained to the two films, it gave opportunities for some heartwarming bonds and touching moments between May and these two Legendaries.

4 Tobias Somehow Had Two Legendary Pokémon On His Team When Fighting Ash

Pokémon 10 Luckiest Moments Ranked

Even though Tobias only used two Pokémon in his battle against Ash in the Sinnoh League, both of them were Legendary Pokémon in Darkrai and Latios. By the time Ash defeated both Pokémon, however, Ash’s entire party was either knocked out or too exhausted to continue battling Tobias any further, thus handing Tobias the win easily. Whether Tobias obtained Darkrai and Latios by luck is unknown to viewers.

However, many agree that it was extremely lucky for Tobias to have two Legendary Pokémon on his team if not more, let alone even having one Legendary Pokémon, to begin with.

Pokémon 10 Luckiest Moments Ranked

Ash almost lost his first Gym battle when facing Gym Leader Brock’s Onix. Pikachu, as an Electric-type versus Onix’s Rock-typing, had an initial disadvantage. Luckily for Ash, however, the sprinklers went off in the middle of the battle. This immediately gave Pikachu an advantage against Onix, and it almost finished off Onix when Brock’s siblings immediately interrupted the match.

The siblings begged for Ash to forfeit the match out of fear for Onix’s wellbeing, Ash honored their request. However, Brock was impressed that Ash did so, and awarded him the Boulder Badge. The two soon became traveling companions by the end of the same episode.

Cameron and Ash had an extremely close battle against each other, and at first, it seemed like Ash would win. Cameron mistakenly brought five Pokémon to the battle instead of six required for a full team, which also helped Ash’s chances.

However, Cameron’s Riolu evolved into Lucario mid-battle and took down the rest of Ash’s team, giving Cameron the victory. Many felt cheated when they saw how easily Cameron’s Lucario dealt with Ash’s Pokémon and felt that Ash should have won, had Riolu not evolved.

1 Ash Got Pikachu As His Starter Pokémon

Ash did not get any of the typical starter Pokémon in the Kanto region, due to sleeping in. However, he was extremely lucky to get Pikachu from Professor Oak as his starter Pokémon. Not only did Pikachu become a lifelong companion to him on his journey, but its Electric-typing made it a unique starter Pokémon compared to the usual Water, Grass, or Fire-type Pokémon.

If Ash had gained one of the regular starter Pokémon, his entire journey as a trainer would be drastically different than what it is now.
