Ash Ketchum is the protagonist of Pokémon’s main anime series. As the protagonist, he had many advantages and opportunities that normal trainers would not have.
Some of these opportunities resulted in Ash becoming the Champion in Alola, having supportive friends and family along the entire journey so far as a trainer. And having opportunities to battle high-class trainers like Gym Leaders and Champions both during and outside of official matches. He also had many other unique experiences including traveling with different companions throughout his journey so far. Not to mention him having a unique starter Pokémon and companion in Pikachu.
10 He Has A Supportive Mother Looking Out For Him
Though Ash might sometimes be annoyed by his mother Delia Ketchum embarrassing him in front of his peers, he at least has a supportive family member that tries to keep in contact with him throughout his journey. Ash and Delia had a close and loving familial relationship with each other.
It extended to the point that Ash did not hesitate to go after Entei after it kidnapped his mother during one movie. Delia, in turn, tried to look out for her son whenever trouble arose during the times they spent together.
9 Sleeping In Led To Him Getting A Unique Starter Pokémon
Though Ash slept in and missed out on having any of the typical Kanto region starter Pokémon, he did earn a unique starter Pokémon in Pikachu. Most trainers usually picked up one of the standard three main types; Fire, Water, or Grass. However, Pikachu was an Electric-type Pokémon, which is fairly unique considering that it is outside of those three main types.
Even if Ash and Pikachu did not get along at first, at least Ash had a special Pokémon that most new trainers would not have from the beginning.
8 He Always Had A Trusted Pokémon To Depend On In Pikachu
Though Ash and Pikachu’s relationship had a rocky start, these two have one of the strongest bonds in the entire franchise.
Though they initially seemed like a duo destined for failure, considering that they did not get along at all in the first episode, Pikachu and Ash grew to care for each other after defending each other from a flock of Spearow in the first episode. Ever since that incident, both trainer and Pokémon maintained a close relationship with each other to the point that Ash always brought Pikachu with him to every new region he went to.
7 He Will Always Find Fellow Trainers And Friends To Travel With
Many Pokémon trainers might have to complete their journeys alone, but Ash is rarely lonely. Instead, he is often accompanied by two or more people at a time. An example of this is Ash being accompanied by Brock for a good portion of his journey before Brock finally decided to become a Pokémon Doctor.
Other examples include Ash hanging out at the trainer school in Alola with Lillie, Kiawe, and many other classmates. No matter where Ash went or what he was doing during his journey, he always had friends to stick with, and that made the journey much more fun and interesting.
6 He Earned All The Required Badges To Enter Each Region’s Pokémon League Championships
Though some Gym battles might require rematches, such as the battle against Rock-type Gym Leader Roark, Ash eventually earned the badges required to enter each region’s Pokémon League Championships.
Training for these particular battles took a lot of hard work and dedication to get the job done, as well as some creative strategies, but Ash did earn them. Some of these were admittedly earned by luck or out of gratitude from the Gym Leader for Ash helping them out in a few situations, but most of them were earned through hard-fought battles.
5 He Become Alola’s First Champion
Even though Ash lost many championship tournaments throughout the series, he did eventually become Alola’s first Champion after all of his hard work. Many fans were stunned by his victory at the time, considering that Ash lost so many league Championships despite his best efforts thanks to overpowered trainers or his Pokémon disobeying him.
Though Ash lost so many past Championships, however, at least he can finally call himself a Champion from one region if anyone asked him how his journey as a trainer was so far, since that is one of his biggest accomplishments.
4 He Had The Opportunity To Battle High-Class Trainers Including Champions Like Leon
Most trainers rarely get the chance to battle Champions, and other high-class trainers like Gym Leaders, during official and unofficial battles. However, Ash got the chance to participate in such matches against Gym Leaders like Whitney and even the undefeatable Champion Leon. Even though not every battle resulted in a victory, the fact that Ash had the opportunities for such unique battles was fun for both Ash and his friends watching at the time.
It also gave Ash opportunities to get to know the Champions as actual people rather than most trainers putting them up on elite pedestals.
3 He Retained His Memories Of Mewtwo’s Existence
Though Mewtwo initially wiped the memories of everyone involved in the first movie, this changed later on in Mewtwo Returns. After Team Rocket’s memories were wiped save for Jessie, James, and Meowth, Mewtwo almost decided to wipe Ash and his companions’ memories again.
However, Ash reassured Mewtwo that he and the others would keep Mt. Quena’s spring and the existence of Mewtwo’s fellow clone Pokémon a secret, and Mewtwo decided not to wipe Ash and the others’ memories in the end. Even though Ash has to keep Mewtwo’s existence a secret, at least he is aware that Mewtwo exists and can look forward to meeting again in the future.
2 He Met All Sorts Of Legendary Pokémon
It is often hard to spot Legendary Pokémon. However, since Ash is the protagonist of the main anime series, he often got opportunities to meet Legendary Pokémon whether he wanted to or not. From meeting Celebi in the forest to encountering the wish-granting Jirachi, Ash encountered each of the Legendary Pokémon, saw their powers in action, and sometimes had to save them from evildoers or stop these same Legendary Pokémon from destroying the world around them in some shape or form.
Even though some of these encounters were dangerous, they were fairly fascinating and unique.
1 He Always Had Interesting Adventures To Talk About
Those some of these adventures might result in life-and-death situations for Ash, many of them are also fun. Since Ash traveled with so many different companions, participated in battles through all the main regions, and fought many different rivals, Ash gained many memorable moments throughout his life to talk about with others.
Even if he did not win every battle or become the champion in every region possible, he still participated in so many interesting experiences that he could share with future companions and friends. At the very least, Ash’s life so far is a fascinating one with all the different, unique experiences he participated in.
