Ash Ketchum’s very first Pokémon was a Pikachu. It was given to him by Professor Oak since Ash woke up late and the traditional starters were gone. After Ash gained Pikachu’s trust, Pikachu became friendlier to people, although it likes to shock people from time to time, which is strong enough to bring most people down.

During Ash’s adventure, Pikachu has proven itself to be one of Ash’s most reliable partners, winning a lot of battles for him despite refusing to get stronger through evolution. Pikachu is the main mascot of the Pokémon franchise, so it makes sense that it would be more overpowered.

10 Pikachu Defeated A Flock Of Angry Spearow While Injured

During Ash’s first attempt to catch a Pokémon, he throws a rock at a Spearow. It becomes furious, blaming Pikachu and attacking it. When Pikachu bests it, it cries out, and dozens of other Spearow join the fight.

As a result, Pikachu gets heavily injured, and Ash is forced to run with Pikachu in his arms. Inspired by Ash’s dedication to protecting him, Pikachu leaps up and shocks the Spearow, defeating all of them with a single attack.

9 Pikachu Defeated Lt. Surge’s Raichu

In most cases, a Pokémon would not be able to defeat an evolved form of itself, due to rise in stats that an evolution brings. However, Pokémon learn moves faster if they choose not to evolve.

Pikachu lost badly the first time Ash challenged Lt. Surge, but the pair used Pikachu’s Agility and Quick Attack, moves that allowed Pikachu to easily outspeed Raichu, who had not learned those moves. It was a clever strategy, and it earned them the Thunder Badge.

8 Pikachu Consistently Sends Team Rocket Flying

Team Rocket, seeing a great amount of value in Ash’s Pikachu in particular, are constantly following it in hopes that they can steal it from him.

Their plans never work, and although they utilize different equipment and gadgets to nullify Pikachu’s electricity, the electric mouse manages to always find a way to use one of its attacks to send the villains flying. They are usually sent skyrocketing into the air and disappear into the distance.

7 Pikachu Defeated Gym Leader Wattson’s Pokémon In A Single Hit

In order to challenge him, trainers are expected to defeat the robotic Raikou, which Pikachu defeats with Iron Tail. Unbeknownst to them, this decision overcharges Pikachu. This allows it to defeat all three of Wattson’s Electric Pokémon in a single hit.

Unfortunately, being overcharged makes Pikachu feel sick after the battle. To his credit, Ash tells Wattson what happened and tries to return the gym badge, but Wattson refuses to take it since Ash helped him save some Pokémon from Team Rocket.

6 Pikachu Defeated A Dragonite

Pikachu’s fight against Drake’s Dragonite is arguably one of Pikachu’s most famous battles. Before battling Ash, Drake had been undefeated for a long time. Drake’s Dragonite is quick to prove its worth, as it alone is enough to take down Ash’s Squirtle, Charizard, and Tauros.

Dragonite was tired from these battles, but still had an advantage over Pikachu as it was fully evolved and knew Hyper Beam. However, Dragonite wasn’t able to remain standing after taking a shock from Pikachu.

5 Pikachu Beat Anabel’s Espeon By Shorting Out The Lights

Pikachu is able to think of some brilliant tactics on its own. When battling Anabel’s Espeon, Pikachu is quick to realize that the Psychic-type Pokémon is both faster and stronger.

Espeon used Psychic to repeatedly slam Pikachu against the ceiling, but Pikachu used this opportunity to jump on the lights and short them out, making the stadium too dark for anyone to see anything. Under the cover of darkness, Espeon takes a few hits, which severely weakens it before the lights turn back on.

4 Pikachu Defeated A Legendary Pokémon

Thanks to Pikachu, Ash was able to defeat Brandon’s Regice. Regice is the first Legendary Pokémon that Pikachu defeated in the anime, which is no small feat. Regice didn’t make the battle easy, constantly freezing Pikachu and utilizing Rest to remove the effects of Paralysis.

However, Pikachu’s electric attacks and Iron Tail allowed it to quickly and easily break free from the ice every time. Its Volt Tackle packed enough force to knock out the Legendary Titan.

3 Pikachu Defeated Gladion’s Silvally

Silvally is another Legendary Pokémon that was defeated by Ash’s Pikachu. Pikachu had more speed than Silvally did, weaving through its attacks. Thanks to its speed it was able to build up enough momentum to defeat it.

What makes this victory particularly impressive was the fact that Ash’s Melmetal had been defeated by Gladion’s Silvally right before Ash chose to send out Pikachu, despite the fact that it was a Mythical Pokémon.

2 Pikachu Comes Up With Countless Improvised Moves

Pokémon typically remember only a limited number of moves, but Pikachu has made up quite a few of its own in the spur of the moment. Pikachu can store electrical energy in any part of its body, charging it up and striking its opponent.

Pikachu can also surround its entire body with electricity, and even combine moves in order to make them stronger. For example, it has been seen using Electro Ball right before using Iron Tail, giving the moves more power.

1 Pikachu Powered Up Swellow With Its Electricity

During a double battle alongside Ash’s Swellow, Pikachu faces Tate and Liza’s Solrock and Lunatone. Pikachu uses Thunder on the clouds overhead, which spit out a lightning strike back at Pikachu and Swellow.

Both Pokémon are supercharged from this strike, despite the fact that Swellow is a Flying-type and weak to electric moves. This feat allowed them to win the battle and showed that Pikachu really is overpowered.
