As is common in the Pokemon main series games, there are some species that are exclusive to certain versions. In Pokemon Sword & Shield, the Crown Tundra DLC introduced a bunch of Pokemon from past generations–though, these too are subject to the version-exclusive divide.

Those found in Pokemon Shield consist of mostly legendary Pokemon and a few other powerful species. To get them, one will have to do a fair bit of exploring as well as many Max Raid battles. Be sure to level up accordingly, as the strongest of these mighty Pokemon possess levels around 70.

Where To Find Kabutops & Kabuto In The Crown Tundra DLC

These fossil Pokemon, who are in the same evolutionary line, are able to be caught without having to revive them–which is fairly uncommon for the main series games. The smaller Kabuto can be found in two locations, but its evolution, Kabutops, can only be found in one.

Where To Find Kabuto At The Giant’s Foot & In The Roaring-Sea Cave

Kabuto that are between level 60 and level 65 can be found as visible encounters while surfing through tall grass in both locations. Their encounter rate is 24% for most weather conditions, however, it is 20% when it is snowing or when there is a blizzard, and Kabuto do not show up at all during a sandstorm. There is also a level 63 wandering Kabuto that can be found during any weather condition but only at The Giant’s Foot.

Where To Find Kabutops In The Roaring-Sea Cave

The only place to find Kabutops is as a wandering level 68 encounter within this ancient location. Thankfully, wandering encounters reset every day, so there will always be another chance if things don’t go well.



Where To Find Lugia In The Crown Tundra DLC

Like all of the legendary Pokemon from previous generations that were welcomed back in the Crown Tundra DLC, Lugia is only found as a special Pokemon at the end of Max Raid battle gauntlets known as the Dynamax Adventures. After taking down 3 more common varieties of Pokemon, trainers will get a chance at a level 70 legendary Pokemon from the past.

Lugia, a Psychic and Flying-type Pokemon originally from the Generation 2 games, appears at level 70 with the Pressure ability and the following moveset:

  • Dragon Pulse
  • Whirpool
  • Extrasensory
  • Ancient Power

This Dragon and Psychic-type Pokemon from Generation 3 also reappears as a level 70 encounter special Pokemon in the Dynamax Adventures. They will possess the Levitate ability as well as these 4 moves:

  • Surf

This line of Dragon and Ground-type Pokemon are fan-favorites, and many are likely happy to see them return in the Crown Tundra DLC. It should be noted that Gible and Garchomp have wild encounters, the latter in multiple areas, however, the second stage, Gabite, can only be obtained by evolving a Gible.


Where To Find Gible In The Tunnel To The Top

Gible can be found as a visible level 60 to level 65 encounter in tall grass. They show up during all kinds of weather, though only at an encounter rate of 10%.

Where To Find Garchomp In The Tunnel To The Top & The Path To The Peak

A Garchomp can be spotted as a wandering encounter level 68 encounter in both the Tunnel to the Top and the Path to the Peak. However, the one in the Tunnel to the Top can show up during any kind of weather while the one on the Path to the Peak will only appear during harsh sunlight.

Where To Find Palkia In The Crown Tundra DLC

The mighty Water and Dragon-type Palkia, originally from Generation 4, can be fought as a special Pokemon in the Dynamax Adventures. They will be at level 70 and have the Pressure ability as well as the following moves:

  • Dragon Claw

Where To Find Thundurus In The Crown Tundra DLC

The Electric and Flying-type genie Thundurus from Generation 5 shows up as well in the Dynamax Adventures as a special Pokemon. Like their legendary Pokemon brethren, they will be at level 70, though will have the always handy Prankster ability. Thundurus will have this solid moveset when they are encountered:

  • Thunder
  • Rain Dance
  • Weather Ball
  • Sludge Wave

Also from Generation 5, Zekrom, the Dragon and Electric-type pocket monster can be encountered in the Dynamax Adventures as a special Pokemon.

  • Dragon Rush

Where To Find Lunala In The Crown Tundra DLC

The Psychic and Ghost-type Lunala from Generation 7 is the last legendary Pokemon added as a Shield version exclusive in the Crown Tundra DLC. Like the others, Lunala can be found at level 70 while ending a series of Max Raid battles in the Dynamax Adventures. They will have their Shadow Shield ability as well as the following moves:

  • Shadow Ball
  • Moonblast
  • Swift
  • Magic Coat
