The latest stint of the Pokemon anime, titled Pokemon Journeys, has acted as something of a nostalgia ride through the franchise’s past, seeing Ash reunite with various iconic characters from the show’s over two-decade-long run. The protagonist met up with his iconic rival Gary Oak, offering an insight into what the character had accomplished since he last appeared on the show, while Mewtwo made his grand return, battling Ash and Goh in a high-stakes battle.

Now, it seems another staple of Pokemon’s past is ready to join the roster of characters cropping up in Journeys, with the franchise’s Twitter account announcing that Dawn is scheduled to return to the show. Her appearance will come through two Summer-focused episodes slated to air on July 23 and July 30 in Japan, seeing Ash, Goh, and Chloe venture to the Sinnoh region.

Dawn hasn’t featured in the Pokemon anime for quite some time now, last appearing in the Pokemon: Black and White show that aired between 2010 and 2013. A short trailer that comes complete with the announcement confirms she’ll be joined by her former companion, with Piplup also coming along for the ride. Making her debut during the anime’s Diamond and Pearl stint, the character desires to follow in the footsteps of her mother and become a Pokemon Coordinator, deciding to travel with Ash and Brock to gain experience. After various adventures alongside Ash and Pikachu, she made the decision to say goodbye to the protagonists and depart for the Johto Region, officially exiting the show.

Her latest appearance appears to be an action-packed one, with the short promo for Ash’s new adventure with Dawn teasing plenty of intense Pokemon battles with Team Rocket. Considering the character was one of the anime’s more popular companion characters, fans will definitely be excited to see her make her return.

Pokemon Journeys won’t be the only excuse to return to the Sinnoh region later this year, with Nintendo slated to release Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on the Switch this November. The games will remaster both Pokemon Diamond and Pearl with new visuals and quality of life updates, offering a 3D game world with chibi-esque characters. It will be followed by another Pokemon game just a few months after, with Pokemon Legends: Arceus offering an all-new take on the formula. The game will be a prequel also set in the Sinnoh region, with players able to explore an open-world setting where Pokemon roam in real-time. It’s set to launch in January 2022.
