Pokémon BDSP How To Get All Gen 1 To Gen 4 Starters

There is a way for players to collect every Gen 1 through Gen 4 starter in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Players will begin their adventures through the Sinnoh region in Pokémon BDSP with either a Piplup, Turtwig, or Chimchar. This Pokémon will grow to become a loyal and powerful ally to the player. With every new Pokémon journey, starter Pokémon are amongst the rarest creatures, and, for the most part, players will need to trade with others to obtain them all. Fortunately, Pokémon BDSP has a way for players to obtain all the starter Pokémon from not only Sinnoh, but also Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn.

In Pokémon BDSP, players will be tasked with locating and capturing, hatching, or evolving all 151 Pokémon within the Sinnoh Dex. Each Pokémon game has its own region with its own set of Pokémon to collect. Catching them all will reward players with new areas and content within the game. Players will need to complete this first before they can start looking for the Gen 1 through Gen 4 starters.

In order to unlock access to all the starter Pokémon in Pokémon BDSP, players will need to have access to the Grand Underground. This is a location where players can hunt for materials and play with friends. To unlock access to this area, players will need to speak with the Underground Man in Eterna City. He will give the player the Explorer Kit item to enter the Underground. Then, players will need to defeat the Elite Four and unlock the National Dex.

Find Gens 1 Through 4 Starters in the Underground in Pokémon BDSP

To unlock the National Dex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players will need to visit Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town after completing the Sinnoh Pokédex. Players should note that completing this Dex just means seeing all the Pokémon; it is not required to capture them all. Receiving the National Dex will unlock tons of new Pokémon spawns in the world and within the Underground.

The starter Pokémon will begin spawning in specific dens with the Underground. At any point, players can bring up the Pokémon Diamond and Shining Pearl Underground Map to find these dens. These are rooms in which players can encounter Wild Pokémon. These are the dens players will need to search for to find them all:

  • Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Treecko, and Turtwig: Grassland Cave, Riverbank Cave, Still-Water Cavern, and Sunlit Cavern.
  • Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, and Chimchar: Volcanic Cave, Typhlo Cavern, and Sandsear Cave.
  • Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, and Piplup: Fountainspring Cave, Riverbank Cave, and Still-Water Cavern.

Players can reset the spawns within a room by leaving and entering again. This will reroll the room and will offer players new Pokémon to capture. Alternatively, players can capture the base form of each starter Pokémon from Gens one through four and breed them at the Day Care Center to hatch multiple. Players should note that the starters from generations beyond the first four are absent from Pokémon BDSP and are therefore unavailable.
