Pokémon BDSP How To Get An Everstone (& What It Does)

The Everstone is a held item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that prevents Pokémon from evolving but has seen many changes over time. The Everstone was initially introduced in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver alongside a Pokémon’s ability to hold items during battle. Although the Everstone served more as a “gag item” in the past, it has since become a staple in the Pokémon games as an absolute necessity for breeding Pokémon.

At first, the Everstone prevented a Pokémon from evolving through trade, level-up, or any Evolution Stone in Pokémon. However, Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl onward, a Pokémon holding an Everstone could still evolve using an Evolution Stone. However, the Everstone still failed to prevent Kadabra from evolving. Therefore, further changes were made to the Everstone in Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 that players have become familiar with today.

While Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl retain much of the original games’ features, the updated Everstone managed to make an appearance. The Everstone guarantees a parent Pokémon to pass down its nature to the offspring, making the Everstone is a highly desirable item for those looking to build the best competitive team in Pokémon BDSP. When paired with another Pokémon for breeding, holding a Destiny Knot, like Ditto, trainers can easily foster the best versions of each Pokémon.

How To Get An Everstone in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

There are multiple ways to get an Everstone in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but the earliest trainers can get their hands on one is once they reach Oreburgh City. Geodude have a 5% chance of holding an Everstone when trainers capture them, and they can be found north of Oreburgh City in the tall grass or in the Oreburgh Mine itself. There isn’t a need for an Everstone this early in the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl story, but the option is available to players.

Trainers can also find an Everstone in the Grand Underground in Pokémon BDSP. Although the chances of finding an Everstone are rare here, trainers can either capture more Geodudes or mine for an Everstone. Since the Grand Underground can be accessed long before trainers even have to worry about breeding Pokémon with such specificity, this method can be deferred for the time being.

The final method of getting an Everstone in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a guaranteed method, and it takes place near the end of the main story. Outside of Snowpoint City is a lone house where an NPC is looking to trade her Haunter for a Medicham. This is one of several NPC trades in Pokémon BDSP, and upon receiving her Haunter, she’ll explain that it didn’t evolve because it was holding an Everstone.

This returning trade from the original Diamond and Pearl games is a half-hearted joke referencing the held item loss glitch players experienced in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. These three games were the only ones in the Pokémon series where Everstones didn’t stop traded Pokémon from evolving, and it caused players to lose their Everstones. Nonetheless, the Everstone worked as intended in the original Diamond & Pearl and can be obtained the same way in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
