The long-awaited Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl remakes have finally been released, and the Sinnoh region invites new and old fans alike to experience a Pokémon adventure of their very own. The original Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl games are arguably some of the most popular in the series, defining what Pokémon would be for generations to come. Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl brought these classics to the Nintendo Switch with updated graphics and features that both honor and modernize what made these games special for many Pokémon fans.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were advertised to be loving remakes of the original Gen 4 games, and the starting zone of Twinleaf Town lives up to that promise. From its charming soundtrack to Pokémon’s classic water reflection in the pond, Twinleaf Town cheerfully welcomes players to the start of their brand new adventure and greets old fans with a wave of nostalgia.

Pokémon: BDSP’s Twinleaf Town Welcomes Players Back To Sinnoh
Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s Twinleaf Town is a near one-to-one remake of the original, welcoming players home with minor updates like the inclusion of a Nintendo Switch rather than a Wii in the player’s room. Familiar NPCs can be found in the same spots as before and greet the player with the same dialogue – even the man who marvels about the ability to play games wirelessly, which harkens back to the novelty of wireless play in the DS era.
With Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl’s updated graphics, dialog interactions take on new angles that highlight the character’s expressions, which makes interactions a little more personal. However, the NPCs’ animations and movements reference the original 2D games, and the combination of these new and old effects make the game’s visuals extremely nostalgic despite the updates. Like the originals, the player’s mom gives them the running shoes before they leave Twinleaf Town, which gives them the ability to sprint. This early reward sets the tone for the game and makes the road ahead all the more exciting.
Walking around Twinleaf Town without them recreates the original games’ sense of anticipation as players make their way to the Verity Lakefront with their rival to choose their BDSP Starter Pokémon. Unlike the originals, however, the running shoes in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl allow players to auto-run without holding the B button, which is a nice quality-of-life update for the remakes. Not only will players receive the running shoes, but their mom will also give them Lucas’ or Dawn’s classic hat just as they’re walking out the door, hitting Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl players with one final burst of nostalgia just before they embark on their adventure.
