Pokemon Black and White Have Already Sold Over 5 Million Copies

Pok̩mon is a massive series for Nintendo and news is often released that tells of the wondrous sales that each version has experienced Рso everyone expected the same from Pok̩mon Black and Pok̩mon White.

The funny thing about Pokémon Black and White is that the game hasn’t even reached shores outside of Japan and it’s doing exceptionally well already – with sales reaching over 2 million within the first two days of launch.

That was September, and it seems now that Pokémon’s attack on Japan was super effective because word is that the pair of Poké-games, Black and White, have reached sales of over 5 million. This news was expected but it was Enterbrain and Media Create that released an official statement today confirming that the latest Pokémon games have surpassed the five million mark. It was Famitsu.com (a subsidiary of Enterbrain) that announced that as of January 9th a whopping combined total of 5,036,724 Black and White games have been sold to-date.

There are only four other DS games with sales of over five million, but it only took Pok̩mon Black and White 17 weeks to reach this pedestal Рmaking it the fastest selling out of the other four. The duo of games were also the fastest selling games of all 2010 in Japan Рedging out the next closest game by over 1.5 million.

There’s no debating that Pokémon has proven to be more than just a fad, as it was was labeled back in the 90s, especially when sales of the product are this insanely strong – and it hasn’t even shipped to areas outside of Japan. The game is also allegedly quite good because it is the only Pokémon game in the history of the entire series to receive a perfect 40/40 score from Famitsu, which is something that rarely ever happens.

Pok̩mon Black and White is easily one of my most anticipated titles of 2011, and it will likely receive a similar reception to that of its Japanese release Рwhen it flies into the North America Region on March 6th.

Are you looking forward to Pokémon Black and White? Have you already pre-ordered your copy?
